⁸ and walked in the statutes of the nations, whom LORD cast out from before the sons of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they made.

³ Ye shall not do after the doings of the land of Egypt, in which ye dwelt, and ye shall not do after the doings of the land of Canaan, where I bring you, nor shall ye walk in their statutes.

²⁷ (for all these abominations the men of the land have done, who were before you, and the land is defiled), ²⁸ that the land not vomit you out also, when ye defile it, as it vomited out the nation that was before you. ²⁹ For whoever shall do any of these abominations, even the souls that do them shall be cut off from among their people. ³⁰ Therefore ye shall keep my charge, that ye not practice any of these abominable customs, which were practiced before you, and that ye not defile yourselves in it. I am LORD your God.

³⁰ take heed to thyself that thou be not ensnared to follow them, after they are destroyed from before thee, and that thou not inquire after their gods, saying, How do these nations serve their gods? Even so I will do likewise. ³¹ Thou shall not do so to LORD thy God. For every abomination to LORD, which he hates, they have done to their gods, for they even burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods.

⁹ When thou have come into the land, which LORD thy God gives thee, thou shall not learn to do according to the abominations of those nations.

²⁸ Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold. And he said to them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

³¹ And it came to pass, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took to wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshiped him. ³² And he reared up an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he had built in Samaria. ³³ And Ahab made the Asherah. And Ahab did yet more to provoke LORD, the God of Israel, to anger than all the kings of Israel who were before him.

²⁶ And he did very abominably in following idols, according to all that the Amorites did whom LORD cast out before the sons of Israel.)

³ But he walked in the way of the kings of Israel. Yes, and made his son to pass through the fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom LORD cast out from before the sons of Israel.

¹⁰ And king Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, and saw the altar that was at Damascus. And king Ahaz sent to Urijah the priest the form of the altar, and the pattern of it, according to all the workmanship of it.

¹¹ Ephraim is oppressed. He is crushed in judgment, because he was content to walk after man's command.

¹⁶ For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab, and ye walk in their counsels, that I may make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof a hissing. And ye shall bear the reproach of my people.
