³ For what says the Scripture? And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him for righteousness.

¹⁰ And have ye not read this scripture: The stone which the builders disallowed, The same is become the head of the corner;

⁵ But to him that works not, but believes on him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned for righteousness.

⁹ Comes this happiness then on the circumcision, or also on he uncircumcision? For we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.

¹¹ And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while in uncircumcision; that he might be father of all that believe while in uncircumcision, that the righteousness might be reckoned to them also,

²² Wherefore also it was reckoned to him for righteousness. ²³ And it was not written for his sake alone, that it was reckoned to him; ²⁴ but for ours also, to whom it shall be reckoned, if we believe on him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; ²⁵ who was delivered up for our offenses, and was raised for our justification.

¹⁷ For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: Even for this very purpose did I raise thee up, that I might show forth my power in thee, and that my name might be declared in all the earth.

¹¹ For the Scripture says: Whoever believes on him shall not be put to shame.

² God did not cast away his people whom he foreknew. Know ye not what the Scripture says in the story of Elijah; how he pleads with God against Israel, saying:

⁶ As Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him for righteousness. ⁷ Know then that they who are of faith, these are sons of Abraham. ⁸ And the Scripture, foreseeing that God justifies the Gentiles by faith, announced beforehand the glad tidings to Abraham, saying: In thee shall all the nations be blessed.

²³ And the scripture was fulfilled which says: Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him for righteousness; and he was called, Friend of God.

⁵ Do ye think that the Scripture says in vain, the spirit he made to dwell in us has jealous longings?

²⁰ knowing this first, that no prophecy of the Scripture comes of private interpretation; ²¹ for prophecy was never brought by the will of man; but moved by the Holy Spirit, men spoke from God.
