¹⁴ And the wall of the city had twelve foundation-stones, and on them twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

² And the names of the twelve apostles are these; first Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; ³ Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alpheus, and Lebbeus surnamed Thaddeus; ⁴ Simon the Cananite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

¹⁸ And I also say to thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of the underworld shall not prevail against it.

¹⁰ According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master-builder I laid a foundation, and another builds thereon. But let each one take heed how he builds thereon. ¹¹ For other foundation can no one lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

⁹ and having learned the grace that was given to me, James and Cephas and John, who were reputed to be pillars, gave to me and Barnabas right hands of fellowship, that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the circumcision;

²⁰ having been built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the chief corner-stone;

⁵ which in other generations was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit;

¹¹ And he gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, some as pastors and teachers;

¹⁰ for he looked for the city which has the foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

¹⁷ But ye, beloved, remember the words which were before spoken by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;

²⁰ Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye saints, ye apostles, and ye prophets; because God judged your cause upon her.

¹⁹ The foundation-stones of the wall of the city were adorned with every precious stone. The first foundation-stone was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, chalcedony; the fourth, emerald; ²⁰ the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprasus; the eleventh, hyacinth; the twelfth, amethyst. ²¹ And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; each several gate was of one pearl; and the street of the city was pure gold, as transparent glass.
