⁹ And he went again into the palace, and says to Jesus: Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.

⁶³ But Jesus was silent. And the high priest answering said to him: I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou art the Christ, the Son of God.

¹² And when he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he made no answer. ¹³ Then says Pilate to him: Hearest thou not what things they witness against thee? ¹⁴ And he made him no answer, not even to one word; so that the governor greatly wondered.

³ And the chief priests accused him of many things. ⁴ And Pilate asked him again, saying: Answerest thou nothing? Behold what things they testify against thee. ⁵ But Jesus no longer made any answer; so that Pilate marveled.

¹⁴ Jesus answered and said to them: Though I bear witness of myself, my witness is true; because I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye know not whence I come, or whither I go.

²⁹ We know that God has spoken to Moses; but this man we know not, whence he is. ³⁰ The man answered and said to them: Why herein is a marvelous thing, that ye know not whence he is, and he opened mine eyes.

³³ Pilate therefore entered into the palace again, and called Jesus, and said to him: Art thou the King of the Jews?

³⁷ Pilate therefore said to him: Art thou a king then? Jesus answered: Thou sayest it; because I am a king. To this end have I been born, and to this end have I come into the world, that I may bear witness to the truth. Every one that is of the truth hears my voice.

³² And the contents of the Scripture which he was reading was this: He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; And as a lamb dumb before his shearer, So he opens not his mouth. ³³ In his humiliation his judgment was taken away; And his generation who shall fully declare? For his life is taken away from the earth.

²⁸ and in nothing terrified by the adversaries; which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that from God.
