²⁰ But Peter said to him: Thy money perish with thee; because thou didst think to obtain the gift of God with money:

⁸ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. Freely ye received, freely give.

¹⁹ For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false-witnessings, blasphemies.

³ Then Judas, who betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repenting brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders, ⁴ saying: I sinned in betraying innocent blood. And they said: What is it to us? Look thou to it. ⁵ And casting down the pieces of silver in the temple, he departed; and he went away and hanged himself.

¹⁸ Now this man purchased a field with the wages of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

³⁸ And Peter said to them: Repent, and be each of you immersed, upon the name of Jesus Christ, unto remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

²² Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray the Lord, if perhaps the thought of thy heart shall be forgiven thee.

⁴⁵ And those of the circumcision who believed, as many as came with Peter, were astonished, that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Spirit.

¹⁷ If therefore God gave the like gift to them as to us, having believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who then was I, that I could withstand God?

⁹ But they who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and many foolish and hurtful lusts, which sink men into destruction and perdition.

³ Your gold and silver is rusted; and the rust of them will be a witness against you, and will eat your flesh as fire. Ye heaped up treasure, in the last days.

¹⁴ having eyes full of the adulteress, and that cease not from sin; alluring unstable souls; having a heart exercised in covetousness; children of a curse; ¹⁵ forsaking the right way, they went astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness, ¹⁶ but was rebuked for his iniquity; the dumb ass, speaking with man's voice, forbade the madness of the prophet. ¹⁷ These are wells without water, mists driven by a tempest, to whom the blackness of darkness is reserved forever.

¹⁵ The merchants of these things, who became rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and mourning,
