⁷ And having set them in the midst, they asked: By what power, or by what name, did ye do this?

²³ And when he had come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching, and said: By what authority doest thou these things; and who gave thee this authority?

²⁸ And they said to him: By what authority doest thou these things? And who gave thee this authority, to do these things?

¹⁸ The Jews therefore answered and said to him: What sign dost thou show to us, seeing that thou doest these things?

³ And the scribes and the Pharisees bring to him a woman taken in adultery; and having placed her in the midst,

⁹ And they hearing it, and being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, unto the last; and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

¹⁰ be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by him does this man stand here before you whole.

²⁷ And having brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest asked them, ²⁸ saying: Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.

⁴⁰ And to him they assented; and having called the apostles, they scourged them, and commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
