³⁰ Being a prophet, therefore, and knowing that God swore to him, with an oath, that of the fruit of his loins one should sit on his throne,

⁴³ He says to them: How then does David, in the Spirit, call him Lord, saying:

³⁵ And having crucified him, they divided his garments among them, casting lots.

³⁶ For David himself said, in the Holy Spirit: The LORD said to my Lord, Sit on my right hand, Till I put thy enemies under thy feet.

³¹ And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. ³² He shall be great, and shall be called Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of David his father; ³³ and he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

⁶⁹ and raised up a horn of salvation for us, in the house of David his servant, ⁷⁰ (as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets of old,)

¹⁰ And the angel said to them: Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all the people. ¹¹ For to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

⁴⁴ And he said to them: These are my words which I spoke to you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which are written in the law of Moses, and the prophets, and psalms, concerning me.

³⁶ Jesus answered: My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would fight, that I might not be delivered up to the Jews; but now is my kingdom not from hence. ³⁷ Pilate therefore said to him: Art thou a king then? Jesus answered: Thou sayest it; because I am a king. To this end have I been born, and to this end have I come into the world, that I may bear witness to the truth. Every one that is of the truth hears my voice.

¹⁶ Men, brethren, it was necessary that the scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit by the mouth of David spoke before concerning Judas, who became guide to those who took Jesus.

³ concerning his Son, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh,

¹² And again, Isaiah says: There shall be the root of Jesse, And he who rises up to rule the Gentiles; On him will Gentiles hope.

⁸ Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, of the seed of David, according to my gospel;

⁷ Wherefore, as the Holy Spirit says: To-day, if ye will hear his voice,

⁷ he limits a certain day, To-day, (saying in David, after so long a time, as has before been said,) To-day, if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your hearts.

¹⁷ Wherein God, wishing more abundantly to show to the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, interposed with an oath;

¹ FOR this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; ² to whom also Abraham apportioned a tenth of all; first indeed being interpreted King of righteousness, and then also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;

²¹ for they indeed were made priests without an oath, but he with an oath by him who said to him: The Lord swore and will not repent, thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek,—

²¹ for prophecy was never brought by the will of man; but moved by the Holy Spirit, men spoke from God.

¹⁴ These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them; because he is Lord of lords, and King of kings; and they who are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

¹⁶ And he has on his garment, and on his thigh, a name written: KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
