¹ O the happiness of that one, who Hath not walked in the counsel of the wicked. And in the way of sinners hath not stood, And in the seat of scorners hath not sat; ² But—in the law of Jehovah is his delight, And in His law he doth meditate by day and by night: ³ And he hath been as a tree, Planted by rivulets of water, That giveth its fruit in its season, And its leaf doth not wither, And all that he doth he causeth to prosper.
⁴ Not so the wicked: But—as chaff that wind driveth away! ⁵ Therefore the wicked rise not in judgment, Nor sinners in the company of the righteous, ⁶ For Jehovah is knowing the way of the righteous, And the way of the wicked is lost!

¹⁰ Receive my instruction, and not silver, And knowledge rather than choice gold. ¹¹ For better is wisdom than rubies, Yea, all delights are not comparable with it.

⁵ And He raiseth up a testimony in Jacob, And a law hath placed in Israel, That He commanded our fathers, To make them known to their sons. ⁶ So that a later generation doth know, Sons who are born, do rise and recount to their sons, ⁷ And place in God their confidence, And forget not the doings of God, But keep His commands. ⁸ And they are not like their fathers, A generation apostate and rebellious, A generation! it hath not prepared its heart, Nor stedfast with God is its spirit.

³ Roll unto Jehovah thy works, And established are thy purposes,

¹⁰ The commencement of wisdom is the fear of Jehovah, And a knowledge of the Holy Ones is understanding.

¹⁶ `Of the world they are not, as I of the world am not;
¹⁷ sanctify them in Thy truth, Thy word is truth;

⁵⁸ so that, my brethren beloved, become ye stedfast, unmovable, abounding in the work of the Lord at all times, knowing that your labour is not vain in the Lord.

² and be not conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, for your proving what is the will of God—the good, and acceptable, and perfect.

²⁰ O Timotheus, the thing entrusted guard thou, avoiding the profane vain-words and opposition of the falsely-named knowledge,

⁸ See that no one shall be carrying you away as spoil through the philosophy and vain deceit, according to the deliverance of men, according to the rudiments of the world, and not according to Christ,

¹⁴ And thou—be remaining in the things which thou didst learn and wast entrusted with, having known from whom thou didst learn, ¹⁵ and because from a babe the Holy Writings thou hast known, which are able to make thee wise—to salvation, through faith that is in Christ Jesus; ¹⁶ every Writing is God-breathed, and profitable for teaching, for conviction, for setting aright, for instruction that is in righteousness, ¹⁷ that the man of God may be fitted—for every good work having been completed.

¹ The children! obey your parents in the Lord, for this is righteous; ² honour thy father and mother, ³ which is the first command with a promise, `That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live a long time upon the land.' ⁴ And the fathers! provoke not your children, but nourish them in the instruction and admonition of the Lord.

¹⁵ and because from a babe the Holy Writings thou hast known, which are able to make thee wise—to salvation, through faith that is in Christ Jesus; ¹⁶ every Writing is God-breathed, and profitable for teaching, for conviction, for setting aright, for instruction that is in righteousness,

⁸ As to the rest, brethren, as many things as are true, as many as are grave, as many as are righteous, as many as are pure, as many as are lovely, as many as are of good report, if any worthiness, and if any praise, these things think upon;

⁵ and if any of you do lack wisdom, let him ask from God, who is giving to all liberally, and not reproaching, and it shall be given to him;

¹⁵ See, then, how exactly ye walk, not as unwise, but as wise, ¹⁶ redeeming the time, because the days are evil; ¹⁷ because of this become not fools, but—understanding what is the will of the Lord,

⁸ Hear, my son, the instruction of thy father, And leave not the law of thy mother,

¹⁵ I do not ask that Thou mayest take them out of the world, but that Thou mayest keep them out of the evil.

³³ Be not led astray; evil communications corrupt good manners;

⁵ and thou hast loved Jehovah thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might, ⁶ and these words which I am commanding thee to-day have been on thine heart, ⁷ and thou hast repeated them to thy sons, and spoken of them in thy sitting in thine house, and in thy walking in the way, and in thy lying down, and in thy rising up, ⁸ and hast bound them for a sign upon thy hand, and they have been for frontlets between thine eyes, ⁹ and thou hast written them on door-posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

⁶ Give instruction to a youth about his way, Even when he is old he turneth not from it.
