¹⁵ And if thy brother trespass against thee, go and expostulate with him alone; if he hearken to thee, thou hast gained thy brother:

⁴ Charity beareth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity is not insolent, is not puffed up, ⁵ doth not behave indecently, is not selfish, is not easily provoked,

¹ This then I exhort thee first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings he made for all men; ² particularly for kings, and all that are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceful life in all piety and virtue. ³ For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour: ⁴ who is willing that all men should be saved, and therefore come to the knowledge of the truth. ⁵ For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus: ⁶ who gave himself a ransom for all, a testimony to be published in due time, ⁷ for which I was appointed a herald and an apostle. I speak the truth in Christ, I lie not; I am a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. ⁸ I direct therefore that men pray in every place, lifting up holy hands without wrath and debate: ⁹ likewise that women dress themselves in decent apparel with modesty and prudence, not in braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly garments; ¹⁰ but in good works, as becometh women professing godliness. ¹¹ Let the woman learn in silence with all submission: but I permit not a woman to teach, ¹² nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be silent. ¹³ For Adam was formed first, then Eve. ¹⁴ And Adam was not seduced by the serpent, but the woman being led astray was first in the transgression. ¹⁵ Yet shall she be saved through childbirth, if they continue in faith and love, in holiness and modesty.

⁸ Finally my brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are venerable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are friendly, whatever things are reputable, if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think of these things:

⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our several parts, defiling the whole body, inflaming the course of nature, and is set on fire by hell.

¹³ Is there any wise and understanding man among you? let him shew his works by a good conversation in the meekness of wisdom: ¹⁴ but if ye have bitter envy and strife in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth; ¹⁵ this is not the wisdom, that cometh down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and diabolical: ¹⁶ for where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. ¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above first is pure, then peaceable, mild, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. ¹⁸ And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for those that promote peace.

⁴ nor ribaldry, nor buffoonery, nor wanton jesting, which are not meet: but rather giving of thanks.

⁴ Look not every one to his own interests only, but every one also to the concerns of others.

²⁹ Let no corrupt word come out of your mouth; but what is good to useful edification, that it may benefit the hearers.
