¹² He said also to him that had invited Him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, do not invite thy friends, nor thy brethren, nor thy kindred, nor thy rich neighbors; least they invite thee again, and so a return be made thee. ¹³ But when thou makest a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind; and thou shalt be happy; ¹⁴ because they have not wherewith to requite thee: for a recompense shall be given thee at the resurrection of the just.

²⁰ And lifting up his eyes on his disciples He said, Blessed are ye though poor; for the kingdom of God is yours. ²¹ Blessed are ye that hunger now; for ye shall be satisfied. Blessed are ye that weep now; for ye shall laugh.

⁷ Do not wonder that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. ⁸ As the wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound of it, but knowest not whence it cometh, or whither it goeth; so is every one that is born of the Spirit. ⁹ Nicodemus answered and said unto Him, How can these things be? ¹⁰ Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a teacher of Israel and knowest not these things? ¹¹ I assure thee, that we speak what we know, and testify what we have seen; though ye receive not our testimony. ¹² If I have told you earthly things and ye believe not, how will ye believe if I should tell you heavenly ones? ¹³ For no one hath ascended up into heaven, but He that came down from heaven, even the Son of man who is in heaven. ¹⁴ And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up: ¹⁵ that whosoever believeth on Him may not perish, but have eternal life. ¹⁶ For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on Him might not perish, but have everlasting life: ¹⁷ for God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved by Him. ¹⁸ He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not, is already condemned; because he hath not believed on the name of the only-begotten Son of God.

¹² Rejoicing in hope, patient under affliction, persevering in prayer,

¹¹ And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the spirit of our God.

¹⁸ praying at all seasons with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance, and intercession for all the saints;

¹⁸ There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear; because fear hath torment; but he that feareth is not perfected in love.

¹⁷ But if any one, who hath the good things of the world, seeth his brother in want, and shutteth up his bowels from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

¹⁶ And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up: and according to his custom He went into the synagogue on the sabbath-day, and stood up to read. ¹⁷ And there was delivered to Him the book of the prophet Esaias; and opening the book, He found the place where it was written, ¹⁸ "The spirit of the Lord is upon me to the end, for which He hath anointed me: He hath sent me to publish good tidings to the poor, to heal the broken-hearted, to proclaim deliverance to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to release them that are bruised, ¹⁹ and to preach the acceptable year of the Lord." ²⁰ And He folded up the book, and gave it again to the minister, and sat down: and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed upon Him. ²¹ And He said unto them, this day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

⁴⁴ And all that believed were together, and had all things common.

⁸ For by grace ye are saved, through faith: and this not of yourselves; it is the gift of God: not by works, that no one may boast:

¹⁵ See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise men: ¹⁶ redeeming the time, because the days are evil. ¹⁷ Wherefore be not thoughtless, but consider what is the will of the Lord. ¹⁸ And be not drunk with wine, in which there is riotous excess; but be filled with the Spirit:

¹⁷ And therefore if any one be in Christ, he is created anew: old things are passed away, behold all things are become new.
