³ Ye ask and receive not, because ye ask wickedly; that ye may spend it in your pleasures.

¹ Weep now, ye rich men, and howl for your miseries which are coming upon you. ² Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten: ³ your gold and silver is cankered, and their rust shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh like fire: ye have been treasuring them up for these last days. ⁴ Behold the hire of the laborers, that reaped your fields, of which they are defrauded by you, crieth out against you: and the complaints of the reapers are come into the ears of the Lord of hosts. ⁵ Ye have lived upon earth delicately and luxuriously; ye fattened your hearts as in a day of slaughter. ⁶ Ye have condemned, ye have murdered the just one, who resisted you not.

²⁴ No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or at lest he will be attached to the one, and neglect the other: ye cannot serve God and mammon:

⁹ What! know ye not that the unjust shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor the effeminate, nor sodomites, ¹⁰ nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor rapacious persons, shall inherit the kingdom of God. ¹¹ And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the spirit of our God.

¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the desire of the flesh, and the desire of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but of the world.

¹⁵ And He said unto them, See to it that ye beware of covetousness; for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of his possessions.

⁵ Let your conversation be free from covetousness, and be contented with what ye have: for He hath said, I will not leave thee; I will never, never forsake thee.

⁹ But they, that will be rich, fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which plunge men into ruin and perdition. ¹⁰ For the love of money is the root of all evils, which some coveting after have been led astray from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
