¹⁷ Render to no one evil for evil: behaving honorably in the sight of all men. ¹⁸ If it be possible, as much as ye can, live peaceably with all men. ¹⁹ Avenge not yourselves, my beloved; but rather give place to the wrath of others: for it is written, "Vengeance belongeth to me, I will recompence, saith the Lord." ²⁰ Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing, thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. ²¹ Be not overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

¹⁶ For men swear by a greater Being, and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all controversy.

⁹ Lie not one to another, seeing ye have put off the old man with his evil practices; ¹⁰ and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge, after the image of Him that created him.

³⁷ but let your conversation be yea, yea; no, no; for whatever is more than these, cometh from the evil one.

¹⁴ and cancelled the obligation we were under by ritual decrees, which was grievous to us, and hath taken it quite away, even nailing it to his cross.

¹⁷ Wherefore God being willing more abundantly to manifest unto the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it with an oath:

¹⁵ Brethren, (I speak after the manner of men,) no one cancelleth or addeth to a covenant which hath been ratified, though it be but the covenant of a man.
