³ And He, answering, said to them, "Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition? ⁴ For God said, 'Honor your father and your mother,' and 'He that speaks evil of father or mother, let him surely die,' ⁵ But ye say, 'Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, That by which you might be profited by me is an offering,' ⁶ shall in no wise honor his father; and ye made void the word of God because of your tradition. ⁷ Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, ⁸ 'This people honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. ⁹ But in vain do they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.'" ¹⁰ And, having called the multitude near, He said to them, "Hear, and understand: ¹¹ Not that which enters into the mouth defiles the man; but that which proceeds out of the mouth—this defiles the man." ¹² Then, His disciples, coming near, say to Him, "Knowest Thou that the Pharisees, having heard the saying, were made to stumble?" ¹³ But He, answering, said, "Every plant which My Heavenly Father did not plant shall be rooted up. ¹⁴ Let them alone; they are blind guides; and if a blind man be guiding a blind man, both will fall into a pit." ¹⁵ And Peter, answering, said to Him, "Explain to us the parable." ¹⁶ And He said, "Are ye also even yet without understanding? ¹⁷ Do ye not perceive that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the belly, and is cast forth into the drain? ¹⁸ But the things that proceed out of the mouth come forth out of the heart; and these defile the man. ¹⁹ For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false-witnessings, blasphemies: ²⁰ these are the things which defile the man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man."

² "Why do Thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they do not wash their hands, when they eat bread!" ³ And He, answering, said to them, "Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition? ⁴ For God said, 'Honor your father and your mother,' and 'He that speaks evil of father or mother, let him surely die,' ⁵ But ye say, 'Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, That by which you might be profited by me is an offering,' ⁶ shall in no wise honor his father; and ye made void the word of God because of your tradition.

⁶ Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to withdraw yourselves from every brother walking disorderly, and not according to the instruction which ye received from us.

⁷ but refuse the profane and old wives fables, and exercise yourself unto godliness;

³ For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, unless they wash their hands thoroughly, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders; ⁴ and, coming from the marketplace, unless they immerse themselves, they do not eat; and there are many other things which they received to hold; as, immersion of cups, and pots, and brazen vessels. ⁵ And the Pharisees and the scribes ask Him, "Why do not Thy disciples walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with defiled hands?" ⁶ And He said to them, "Well did Isaiah prophesy concerning you hypocrites, as it has been written, This people honor me with their lips; but their heart is far from Me. ⁷ But in vain do they worship Me, teaching as their doctrines the precepts of men. ⁸ Having left the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men." ⁹ And He said to them, "Well do ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may hold your tradition!

¹ Become imitators of me, even as I also am of Christ. ² Now I praise you, that you remember me in all things, and hold fast the traditions, even as I delivered them to you.

² preach the word; be urgent in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with all long-suffering and teaching. ³ For there will be a time when they will not endure the healthful teaching; but, having itching ears, they will for themselves heap up teachers according to their own desires; ⁴ and will turn away their ears from the truth, and will turn aside to the fables.

¹⁴ unto which He called you through our Gospel, to an obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. ¹⁵ So, then, brethren, stand fast, and hold the instructions which ye were taught, whether through speech, or through letter of ours.

⁶ shall in no wise honor his father; and ye made void the word of God because of your tradition.

² Now I praise you, that you remember me in all things, and hold fast the traditions, even as I delivered them to you.

⁸ Beware, lest there should be any one who makes a spoil of you through his philosophy and vain deceits, according to the tradition of men, according to the rudiments of the world, and not according to Christ;

¹⁵ So, then, brethren, stand fast, and hold the instructions which ye were taught, whether through speech, or through letter of ours.
