³⁴ "But take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be weighed down with gluttony and drunkenness, and anxieties pertaining to life, and that day come upon you suddenly as a snare; ³⁵ for so it will come upon all those dwelling upon the face of all the earth. ³⁶ But watch ye at every season, praying that ye may have full strength to escape all these things that are about to come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man."

¹⁹ Now this He spake, signifying by what manner of death he would glorify God. And, having spoken this, He saith to him, "Follow Me." ²⁰ Peter, turning about, sees the disciple whom Jesus loved following; who also at the Supper leaned back on Jesus' breast, and said, "Lord, who is he that betrays Thee?" ²¹ Peter therefore, seeing him, says to Jesus, "Lord, and what will this man do?" ²² Jesus saith to him, "If I wish him to remain till I come, what is it to you? follow Me."

²⁹ because whom He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the first born among many brethren.

⁸ Beware, lest there should be any one who makes a spoil of you through his philosophy and vain deceits, according to the tradition of men, according to the rudiments of the world, and not according to Christ;

³² But concerning that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in Heaven, nor the Son, but the Father. ³³ Take heed, watch [and pray]; for ye know not when the time is. ³⁴ It is as when a man away from home, having left his house, and having given authority to his servants, to each his work, commanded also the porter to watch. ³⁵ Watch, therefore, for ye know not when the master of the house is coming, at evening, or at midnight, or at cock-crowing, or in the morning; ³⁶ lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. ³⁷ And what I say to you, I say to all, 'Watch.'"

²⁸ And we know that all things are working together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose;

¹¹ in Whom we also were made a heritage, having been predestinated according to the purpose of Him Who worketh all things after the counsel of His own will;

⁴ according as He chose us in Him before the founding of a world, that we should be holy and without blemish before Him in love; ⁵ having predestinated us to the adoption of sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,

¹⁰ for we are His workmanship, having been created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God before prepared, that we should walk in them.
