¹² Then he got up and at once picked up his pallet, and went out before them all. The result was that they were all dumbfounded and began to praise God and say, "We have never seen anything like this before."

¹⁸ Then Jesus came up to them, and said, "Full authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

Then they told the blind man, saying, "Cheer up! Get up! He is calling for you." ⁵⁰ He threw off his coat and jumped up and went to Jesus. ⁵¹ Then Jesus asked him, "What do you want me to do for you?" The blind man answered, "Good Teacher, I want to see again." ⁵² Then Jesus said to him, "Go; your faith has cured you." And all at once he could see again, and began to follow Jesus along the road.

¹ Now when the Lord learned that the Pharisees had heard that He was winning and baptizing more disciples than John -- ² though Jesus Himself was not baptizing, it was His disciples -- ³ He left Judea and went back again to Galilee. ⁴ And He had to go through Samaria. ⁵ So He came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the field which Jacob gave to his son Joseph; ⁶ and Jacob's spring was there. So Jesus, tired from His journey, was sitting by the spring just as He was. It was about noon. ⁷ A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, "Give me a drink." ⁸ For His disciples had gone into the town to buy some food. ⁹ So the Samaritan woman said to Him, "How is it that a Jew like you asks a Samaritan woman like me for a drink?" For Jews have nothing to do with Samaritans. ¹⁰ Jesus answered her, "If you just knew what God has to give and who it is that said to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have been the one to ask Him, and He would have given you living water." ¹¹ She said to Him, "You have nothing to draw with, sir, and the well is deep. Where do you get your living water? ¹² You are not greater than our forefather Jacob, are you, who gave us this well, and drank from it himself, with all his sons and flocks?" ¹³ Jesus answered her, "Anyone who drinks this water will get thirsty again; ¹⁴ but whoever drinks the water that I will give him will never, no never, be thirsty again, for the water that I will give him will become a spring of water that keeps on bubbling up within him for eternal life." ¹⁵ The woman said to Him, "Give me this water at once, sir, so I may never get thirsty again, nor have to come so far to draw water." ¹⁶ He said to her, "Go and call your husband and come back here." ¹⁷ The woman answered, "I have no husband." Jesus said to her, "You were right in saying, 'I have no husband,' ¹⁸ for you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true." ¹⁹ The woman said to Him, "I see that you are a prophet. ²⁰ Our forefathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews say that Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship Him." ²¹ Jesus said to her, "Believe me, woman, the time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. ²² You Samaritans do not know what you are worshiping; we Jews do know what we are worshiping; for salvation comes from the Jews. ²³ But a time is coming -- indeed, it is already here -- when the real worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and reality, for the Father is looking for just such worshipers. ²⁴ God is a spiritual Being, and His worshipers must worship Him in spirit and reality." ²⁵ The woman said to Him, "I know that the Messiah is coming, the One who is called the Christ. When He comes, He will tell us everything." ²⁶ Jesus said to her, "I, the very one who is talking to you, am He!" ²⁷ Just then His disciples came up, and they were surprised to find Him talking with a woman, yet not one of them asked Him, "What do you want?" or "Why are you talking with her?" ²⁸ The woman then left her pitcher and went back to town and said to the people, ²⁹ "Come, see a man who has told me everything I ever did. He is not the Christ, is He?" ³⁰ So the people left town and rushed out to see Him.

¹² For our contest is not with human foes alone, but with the rulers, authorities, and cosmic powers of this dark world; that is, with the spirit-forces of evil challenging us in the heavenly contest.

⁸ "To the messenger of the church in Smyrna write: "'The First and the Last, who once was dead but came to life again, speaks as follows:

¹⁷ Consecrate them by your truth; your message is truth.

¹⁶ "For God loved the world so much that He gave His Only Son, so that anyone who trusts in Him may never perish but have eternal life.

¹⁴ Are not the angels all attending spirits sent forth to serve for the sake of those who are going to be unceasing possessors of salvation?

¹⁴ And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask for anything that is in accordance with His will, He will listen to us.

¹⁶ So practice confessing your sins to one another, and praying for one another, that you may be cured. An upright man's prayer, when it keeps at work, is very powerful.

¹³ For such men are sham apostles, dishonest workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And no wonder, for even Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. ¹⁵ So it is no surprise if his servants also masquerade as ministers for doing right, whose doom shall be in accordance with what they do.

¹⁶ All Scripture is inspired by God, and useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in doing what is right,

¹² For God's message is alive and full of power in action, sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing even to the depths of soul and spirit, to the dividing of joints and marrow, and passing judgment on the thoughts and purposes of the heart.
