¹⁵ I am speaking to sensible men; decide for yourselves about what I say. ¹⁶ Is not the consecrated cup which we consecrate a sign of our sharing in the blood of Christ? Is not the loaf which we break a sign of our sharing in the body of Christ? ¹⁷ Because there is only one loaf, so we, though many, are only one body, for we all partake of one loaf.

¹¹ for no one can lay any other foundation than the one that is laid, that is, Jesus Christ Himself. ¹² And whether one puts into the building on the foundation gold or silver or costly stones, or wood or hay or straw, ¹³ the character of each one's work will come to light, for the judgment day will show it up. This is so, because that day will show itself in fire, and the fire will test the character of each one's work. ¹⁴ If the structure which one builds upon it stands the test, he will get his pay. ¹⁵ If the structure which one builds is burned up, he will get no pay; and yet he himself will be saved, but just as one who goes through a fire.

²⁰ But, O senseless man, are you willing to learn that faith without good deeds is worthless? ²¹ Was not our forefather Abraham shown to be upright by his good deeds, namely, by offering Isaac his son upon the altar? ²² You see that faith cooperated with his good deeds, and by his good deeds faith was made complete; ²³ and so the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham put his faith in God, and it was credited to him for uprightness, and he was called God's friend." ²⁴ You see that a man is shown to be upright by his good deeds, and not merely by his faith.

⁵ Jesus answered, "I most solemnly say to you, no one can ever get into the kingdom of God, unless he is born of water and the Spirit.

¹ You must follow my example, just as I myself am following Christ's. ² I prize and praise you for always remembering me and for firmly standing by the teachings as I passed them on to you.
