⁴³ "You have heard that it was said, 'You must love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' ⁴⁴ But I tell you, practice loving your enemies and praying for your persecutors, ⁴⁵ to prove that you are sons of your Father in heaven, for He makes His sun rise on bad as well as good people, and makes the rain come down on doers of right and of wrong alike. ⁴⁶ For if you practice loving only those who love you, what reward will you get? Do not even the tax-collectors practice that? ⁴⁷ And if you say 'Good morning' to your brothers only, what more than others are you doing? ⁴⁸ So you, my followers, ought to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is."

¹⁴ And no wonder, for even Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.

²⁵ So you must lay aside falsehood and each of you practice telling the truth to his neighbor, for we are parts of one another.

¹⁹ Stop taking revenge on one another, beloved, but leave a place for God's anger, for the Scripture says, "Vengeance belongs to me; I will pay them back, says the Lord."

² Stop living in accordance with the customs of this world, but by the new ideals that mold your minds continue to transform yourselves, so as to find and follow God's will; that is, what is good, well-pleasing to Him, and perfect.

³² You must practice being kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has graciously forgiven you.

⁷ But if we continue to live in the light, just as He is in the light, we have unbroken fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son continues to cleanse us from every sin.

⁸ Be calm and alert. Your opponent the devil is always prowling about like a roaring lion, trying to devour you.

¹⁷ Stop returning evil for evil to anyone. Always see to it that your affairs are right in the sight of everybody. ¹⁸ If possible, so far as it depends on you, live in peace with everybody. ¹⁹ Stop taking revenge on one another, beloved, but leave a place for God's anger, for the Scripture says, "Vengeance belongs to me; I will pay them back, says the Lord." ²⁰ Do the opposite. If your enemy is hungry, give him something to eat. If he is thirsty, give him something to drink, for if you act in this way, you will heap burning coals upon his head! ²¹ Stop being conquered by evil, but keep on conquering evil with good.

⁷ So then, submit to God. Resist the devil and he will fly from you.
