¹¹ I have much to say to you about Him, but it is difficult to make it clear to you, since you have become so dull in your spiritual senses. ¹² For although you ought to be teachers of others because you have been Christians so long, you actually need someone to teach you over and over again the very elements of the truths that God has given us, and you have gotten into such a state that you are in constant need of milk instead of solid food.

¹⁷ But if anyone has the world's means of supporting life and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how can love to God remain in him? ¹⁸ Dear children, let us stop loving with words or lips alone, but let us love with actions and in truth.

⁶ but without faith it is impossible to please Him, for anyone who approaches God must believe that there is a God and that He gives rewards to all who earnestly try to find Him.

¹ But as to times and dates, brothers, you have no need of anyone's writing you, ² for you yourselves know perfectly well that the day of the Lord is coming like a thief in the night. ³ When people say, "Such peace and security!" then suddenly destruction falls upon them, like birth pains upon a woman who is about to become a mother, but they shall not escape, no, not at all. ⁴ But you, brothers, are not in darkness, so that that day, like a thief, should take you by surprise; ⁵ for you are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or the darkness. ⁶ So let us stop sleeping as others do, but let us stay awake and keep sober. ⁷ For those who sleep at night and those who get drunk are drunken at night, ⁸ but let us who belong to the day keep sober, clothed with faith and love for a coat of mail and with the hope of salvation for a helmet. ⁹ For God appointed us not to reap His wrath but to gain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, ¹⁰ who died for us, so that whether we still live or sleep we may live in fellowship with Him. ¹¹ So continue encouraging one another and helping one another in character building.

³⁸ You must all keep watching and praying that you may not be exposed to temptation. Man's spirit is willing but human nature is weak." ³⁹ He went away again and prayed in the same words. ⁴⁰ When He went back again, He found them asleep again, for their eyes were so heavy they could hardly hold them open; and they did not know what answer to make Him. ⁴¹ He came back the third time and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and resting? No more of that! The hour has come. See! The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinful men.

³⁹ "You keep on searching the Scriptures, for you yourselves suppose that you will get possession of eternal life through them; and yet they are witnesses that testify to me, ⁴⁰ but you refuse to come to me to get possession of life.

¹⁷ So when a man knows what is right but does not do it, he is guilty of sin.

⁹ Your love must be true. You must always turn in horror from what is wrong, but keep on holding to what is right. ¹⁰ In brotherly love be affectionate to one another, in personal honors put one another to the fore, ¹¹ never slack in earnestness, always on fire with the Spirit, always serving the Lord, ¹² ever happy in hope, always patient in suffering, ever persistent in prayer, ¹³ always supplying the needs of God's people, ever practicing hospitality.

¹⁶ and continue to make the most of your opportunities, for the times are evil.

¹⁵ "I know what you are doing, and that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were cold or hot. ¹⁶ As it is, because you are lukewarm and neither hot nor cold, I am going to vomit you out of my mouth.

¹⁰ From now on you must grow stronger through union with the Lord and through His mighty power. ¹¹ You must put on God's full armor, so as to be able to stand up against the devil's stratagems. ¹² For our contest is not with human foes alone, but with the rulers, authorities, and cosmic powers of this dark world; that is, with the spirit-forces of evil challenging us in the heavenly contest.

³ For a time will come when they will not listen to wholesome teaching, but to gratify their own evil desires will surround themselves with teachers who teach to gratify their own evil desires, because their ears are itching so to be tickled, ⁴ and they will cease to listen to the truth and will turn to listen to myths.

² Wake up, and strengthen what is left, although it is on the very point of dying, for I have not found a thing that you have done complete in the sight of God.
