¹⁶ And he withdrew himself into the desert places and prayed.

¹ Now there was a man of the Pharisees, his name was Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: ² He came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God : for no one can do these miracles that thou dost except God were with him. ³ Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily verily say unto thee, Except any one be born (born again, Vulg.), from above he cannot see the Kingdom of God. ⁴ Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mothers womb, and be born? ⁵ Jesus answered, Verily verily I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Holy Spirit, be cannot enter into the Kingdom of God. ⁶ That which is born of the flesh, is flesh: and that which is born of the Spirit; is Spirit. ⁷ Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be must be born from above (born again, Vulg.), ⁸ The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, or whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. ⁹ Nicodemus answered and said unto him; How can these things be? ¹⁰ Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? ¹¹ Verily verily I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testifie that we have seen; and ye receive not our testimony. ¹² If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe if I shall tell you heavenly things? ¹³ And no one hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, the Son of man who is in heaven. ¹⁴ And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: ¹⁵ That every one who believeth in him, should not perish, but have eternal life. ¹⁶ For God hath so loved the world, that he hath given his only begotten Son, that every one who believeth on him, should not perish, but have eternal life. ¹⁷ For God sent not his Son unto the world to judge the world; but that the world through him might be saved. ¹⁸ He that believeth on him shall not be judged: but he that believeth not, is judged already, because he hath not believed on the name of the only begotten Son of God. ¹⁹ And this is the judgement, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ For every one that doth evil things hateth the light, lest his deeds should be reproved by the light. ²¹ But he that doth truth, cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. ²² After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judea, and there he tarried with them, and baptized. ²³ And John also was baptizing in Enon, near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized. ²⁴ For John was not yet cast into prison; ²⁵ Now there arose a question between [some] of Johns disciples and the Jews, about purifying. ²⁶ And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou bearest witness, behold, He baptizeth, and all come to him. ²⁷ John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven, ²⁸ Ye your selves bear me witness, that I said, I [am] not the Christ, but that I am sent before him. ²⁹ He that hath the bride, is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, who standeth and heareth him, rejoyceth greatly because of the bridegrooms voice, this my joy therefore is fulfilled. ³⁰ He must increase, but I must be diminished. ³¹ -- ³² But he that cometh from above, is above all: he that is of the earth, is of the earth, and speaketh of the earth. He that cometh from heaven, testifyeth, what he hath seen and heard, and no one receiveth his testimony. ³³ He that hath received his testimony, hath set to his seal, that God is true. ³⁴ For he whom God hath sent, speaketh the words of God: for God giveth [him] not the Spirit by measure. ³⁵ The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. ³⁶ That he who believeth on the Son, may have eternal life: But he that believeth not the Son, shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

¹ And he said to his disciples, Let not your heart be troubled: Believe in God, believe also in me. ² In my Fathers house are many mansions, But if not I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. ³ And if I shall go to prepare a place for you, I come again, and will receive you unto my self, that where I am, ye may be also. ⁴ And whither I go, ye know, and the way ye know. ⁵ Thomas who was called Didymus, saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest, and how do we know the way? ⁶ Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. ⁷ If ye had known me, ye would have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. ⁸ Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. ⁹ Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you; and yet hast thou not know me Philip? he that hath seen me, hath seen the Father; and how sayst thou, Shew us the Father? ¹⁰ Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I have spoken unto you, I spake not of my self: but the Father, that abideth in me, he doth his works. ¹¹ Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe for the very works sake, ¹² Verily, verily I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do, shall he do also, and greater than these shall he do; because I go unto the Father. ¹³ And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. ¹⁴ If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do [it]. ¹⁵ If ye love me, keep my commandments. ¹⁶ And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; ¹⁷ The Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him, for he abideth with you, and is in you. ¹⁸ I will not leave you orphans: I come to you. ¹⁹ Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more: but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. ²⁰ In that day ye shall know, that I [am] in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. ²¹ He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father: and I will love him, and will manifest my self to him. ²² Judas saith unto him, not Scarioth, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thy self unto us, and not unto the world? ²³ Jesus answered and said unto him, If any one love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and I will come unto him, and make my abode with him. ²⁴ He that loveth me not, will not keep my sayings: and the word which you hear, is not mine, but his who sent me. ²⁵ These things I have spoken unto you, being present with you. ²⁶ But the Comforter, the Holy Ghost, whom my Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I shall say unto you. ²⁷ Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. ²⁸ Ye have heard that I said unto you, I go away, and come unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoyce, because I go unto the Father: for the Father is greater than I. ²⁹ And now I have told you before it come to pass, that when it shall come to pass, ye might believe me. ³⁰ Hereafter I will not talk many things to you: for the prince of the world cometh, and hath nothing to find in me. ³¹ But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as he commanded me, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.

² And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of the mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.

⁴ But in all things approving our selves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, ⁵ In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings,

⁵ If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not[;] and it shall be given him, ⁶ But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering: for he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea, driven with the wind, and tossed. ⁷ For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

⁶ But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God, must believe that he is, and is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
