¹² Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

³⁵ Then one of them, a lawyer, asked a question, tempting him, and saying,

³⁴ Then stood there up one of the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little while.

¹ Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

³² And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.

²⁵ But a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, What shall I do to inherit eternal life? ²⁶ He said unto him, What is written in [the] law? how readest thou? ²⁷ And he answering, said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole strength;and thy neighbour as thy self. ²⁸ And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live. ²⁹ But he willing to justifie him self, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour? ³⁰ And Jesus answering, said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who both stripped [him] of his raiment, and wounded [him,] and departed, leaving [him] half-dead. ³¹ And there came a certain priest, who was going down that way;and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. ³² And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, seeing him, passed by on the other side. ³³ But a certain Samaritan as he journeyed, came to him: and when he saw him, he had compassion: ³⁴ And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oyl and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought [him] to an inn, and took care of him. ³⁵ And on the morrow he took out two denarii, and gave to the host, and said, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou shall spend more, when I return, I will repay [it.] ³⁶ Which therefore seems to thee to have been neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? ³⁷ And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. But Jesus said onto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

¹ Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm your selves likewise with the same mind; for he that hath suffered in the flesh, hath ceased from sin; ² That he no longer should live the rest of [his] time in the flesh, to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. ³ For the time past may suffice to have wrought the will of te Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: ⁴ Wherein they think it strange that you run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of [you]: ⁵ Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead. ⁶ For, for this cause was the gospel preached also to the dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

¹⁴ For all the law is fulfilled in you in one word, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thy self.

⁸ Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another, hath fulfilled the law. ⁹ For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not covet; and if [there be] any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thy self. ¹⁰ Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: And love [is] the fulfilling of the law.

⁴⁵ But one of the lawyers, answered and said, unto him, Master, thus saying, thou reproachest us also. ⁴⁶ And he said, Wo unto you also, lawyers: for ye burden men with burdens grievous to be born, and ye your selves touch them not with one of your fingers. ⁴⁷ Wo unto you: for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ Bear ye therefore witness that ye do not allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, but ye build [their sepulchres.] ⁴⁹ Therefore I send them prophets and apostles, and [some] of them they will slay and persecute: ⁵⁰ That the blood of all the prophets, which hath been shed from the foundation of the world, unto this generation may be required; ⁵¹ From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, the Son of Barachias whom they slew between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, it shall be required of this generation. ⁵² Wo unto you lawyers: for ye have hidden the key of knowledge: and ye entred not in your selves, and them that were entring in, ye hindred.
