¹⁷ And these signs shall follow them that believe: in my name they shall cast out devils: ¹⁸ they shall speak with new tongues: They shall take up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall in no wise hurt them: they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. ¹⁹ So then the Lord, after he had spoken to them, was received up into heaven, and sat on the right-hand of God.

¹² And sighing deeply in his spirit, he said, Why doth this generation seek a sign? Verily I say to you, There shall no sign be given to this generation.

³ And as he sat on the mount of Olives, his disciples came to him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? And what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

³⁸ Then certain of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.

¹¹ Jesus wrought this beginning of miracles in Cana of Galilee, and manifested his glory, and his disciples believed on him.

²² So that tongues are for a sign, not to believers, but to unbelievers; whereas prophecy is not for unbelievers, but for believers.

³ And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day; for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye know to discern the face of the sky: can ye not discern the signs of the times?

⁴ Tell us, when shall these things be? And what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?

⁴⁸ Jesus said to him, Unless ye see signs and wonders, ye will in no wise believe.

⁴ A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh a sign; but there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah. And he left them and departed.

²⁵ And there shall be signs in the sun, and moon, and stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea roaring and tossing: ²⁶ Men fainting away for fear, and expectation of the things coming upon the world; for the powers of the heavens shall be shaken. ²⁷ And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud, with power and great glory.
