⁵ Trust in the LORD with all thy heart; and lean not to thy own understanding. ⁶ In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he will direct thy paths. ⁷ Be not wise in thy own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. ⁸ It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. ⁹ Honor the LORD with thy substance, and with the first-fruits of all thy increase: ¹⁰ So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

⁴² But Jesus called them, and saith to them, Ye know that they who are accounted to rule over the Gentiles, exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them. ⁴³ But so it shall not be among you: but whoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: ⁴⁴ And whoever of you will be the chief, shall be servant of all. ⁴⁵ For even the son of man came not to be ministered to, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

¹² For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

²¹ Moreover, thou shalt provide out of all the people, able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:

¹ Woe be to the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD.

²⁴ And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest. ²⁵ And he said to them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them, are called benefactors. ²⁶ But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. ²⁷ For which is greater, he that sitteth at table, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at table? but I am among you as he that serveth.

⁹ Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. ¹⁰ Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another; ¹¹ Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; ¹² Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing earnest in prayer; ¹³ Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.

¹² So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said to them, Know ye what I have done to you? ¹³ Ye call me Master, and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. ¹⁴ If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. ¹⁵ For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

¹ This is a true saying, If a man desireth the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. ² A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach; ³ Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre, but patient; not a brawler, not covetous; ⁴ One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; ⁵ (For if a man knoweth not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) ⁶ Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. ⁷ Moreover, he must have a good report of them who are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

³ Let nothing be done through strife or vain glory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

¹² Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in deportment, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
