²⁴ Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

³ Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thy house: thy children like olive plants around thy table.

¹² This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. ¹³ Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. ¹⁴ Ye are my friends, if ye do whatever I command you. ¹⁵ Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard from my Father, I have made known to you. ¹⁶ Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. ¹⁷ These things I command you, that ye love one another.

⁸ But if any provideth not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

⁴ One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

¹⁴ For this cause I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, ¹⁵ Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,

¹² Honor thy father and thy mother; that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

⁶ Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

⁵ (For if a man knoweth not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

²⁰ Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well-pleasing to the Lord.
