³³ I have spoken these things to you so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have oppression; but take heart, I have conquered the world!”

²⁸ Further, we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to purpose.

¹² In fact, any one who desires to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted;

¹² Dear ones, don’t be surprised at the fiery trial that has come upon you as a test, as though something strange was happening to you, ¹³ but to the extent that you share in Christ’s sufferings, rejoice, so that at the revelation of His glory you also may rejoice a great deal more. ¹⁴ If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of the glory and of God has come to rest upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified. ¹⁵ Now don’t any of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evildoer, or as a meddler in others’ affairs; ¹⁶ but if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter. ¹⁷ Because the time has come for judgment to begin at God’s house; now if it starts with us, what will be the end of those who keep disobeying the Gospel of God? ¹⁸ Also, ‘If the righteous one is saved with difficulty, where will the godless and sinful person appear?’ ¹⁹ And so let those who suffer according to the will of God entrust their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.

⁴ And He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there will be no more death nor sorrow nor crying nor pain —they will exist no more because the first things have gone.”

¹⁸ I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is going to be revealed in us.

² Count it all joy, my brothers, whenever you fall into various trials, ³ knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance; ⁴ but let that endurance have a complete work, so that you may be perfect and complete, falling short in nothing.

³ Not only so, but we should also rejoice in the sufferings, knowing that the suffering produces perseverance; ⁴ and the perseverance, proven character; and the proven character, hope; ⁵ and the hope does not humiliate, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

¹⁰ Now may the God of all grace, who called you into His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, Himself perfect, establish, strengthen and ground you—after you have suffered a while.
