¹⁶ For men swear by what is greater than themselves; and with them an oath in confirmation of a statement always puts an end to a dispute.

¹⁸ And to whom did He swear that they should not be admitted to His rest, if it was not to those who were disobedient?

²⁸ For the Law constitutes men High Priests--men with all their infirmity--but the utterance of the oath, which came later than the Law, constitutes High Priest a Son who has been made for ever perfect.

²¹ for these men hold office without any oath having been taken, but He holds it attested by an oath from Him who said to Him, "THE LORD HAS SWORN AND WILL NOT RECALL HIS WORDS, THOU ART A PRIEST FOR EVER" --

¹³ For when God gave the promise to Abraham, since He had no one greater to swear by, He swore by Himself,

¹² But above all things, my brethren, do not swear, either by Heaven or by the earth, or with any other oath. Let your 'yes' be simply 'yes,' and your 'no' be simply 'no;' that you may not come under condemnation.

³³ "Again, you have heard that it was said to the ancients, 'THOU SHALT NOT SWEAR FALSELY, BUT SHALT PERFORM THY VOWS TO THE LORD.' ³⁴ But I tell you not to swear at all; neither by Heaven, for it is God's throne; ³⁵ nor by the earth, for it is the footstool under His feet; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the City of the Great King. ³⁶ And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. ³⁷ But let your language be, 'Yes, yes,' or 'No, no.' Anything in excess of this comes from the Evil one.
