Judges 19:1-30

  1 H3117 It happened in those days, H4428 when there was no king H3478 in Israel, H376 that there was a certain H3881 Levite H1481 living H3411 on the farther side H2022 of the hill H669 country of Ephraim, H3947 who took H802 to him a concubine H1035 out of Bethlehem Judah.
  2 H6370 His concubine H2181 played the prostitute H3212 against him, and went away H1 from him to her father's H1004 house H1035 to Bethlehem Judah, H702 and was there the space of four H2320 months.
  3 H376 Her husband H6965 arose, H3212 and went H310 after H1696 her, to speak H3820 kindly H7725 to her, to bring her again, H5288 having his servant H6776 with him, and a couple H2543 of donkeys: H935 and she brought H1 him into her father's H1004 house; H1 and when the father H5291 of the young lady H7200 saw H8055 him, he rejoiced H7125 to meet him.
  4 H2859 His father-in-law, H5291 the young lady's H1 father, H2388 retained H3427 him; and he stayed H7969 with him three H3117 days: H398 so they ate H8354 and drink, H3885 and lodged there.
  5 H7243 It happened on the fourth H3117 day, H7925 that they arose early H1242 in the morning, H6965 and he rose up H3212 to depart: H5291 and the young lady's H1 father H559 said H2860 to his son-in-law, H5582 "Strengthen H3820 your heart H6595 with a morsel H3899 of bread, H310 and afterward H3212 you shall go your way."
  6 H3427 So they sat down, H398 ate, H8354 and drank, H8147 both H3162 of them together: H5291 and the young lady's H1 father H559 said H376 to the man, H2974 "Please be pleased H3885 to stay all night, H3820 and let your heart H3190 be merry."
  7 H376 The man H6965 rose up H3212 to depart; H2859 but his father-in-law H6484 urged H3885 him, and he lodged H7725 there again.
  8 H7925 He arose early H1242 in the morning H2549 on the fifth H3117 day H3212 to depart; H5291 and the young lady's H1 father H559 said, H5582 "Please strengthen H3824 your heart H4102 and stay H3117 until the day declines;" H8147 and they both H398 ate.
  9 H376 When the man H6965 rose up H3212 to depart, H6370 he, and his concubine, H5288 and his servant, H2859 his father-in-law, H5291 the young lady's H1 father, H559 said H3117 to him, "Behold, now the day H7503 draws H6150 toward evening, H3885 please stay all night: H3117 behold, the day H2583 grows to an end, H3885 lodge H3824 here, that your heart H3190 may be merry; H4279 and tomorrow H1870 go on your way H7925 early, H1980 that you may go H168 home."
  10 H376 But the man H14 wouldn't H3885 stay that night, H6965 but he rose up H3212 and departed, H935 and came H5227 over against H2982 Jebus H3389 (the same is Jerusalem): H6776 and there were with him a couple H2543 of donkeys H2280 saddled; H6370 his concubine also was with him.
  11 H2982 When they were by Jebus, H3117 the day H3966 was far H7286 spent; H5288 and the servant H559 said H113 to his master, H3212 "Please come H5493 and let us turn aside H5892 into this city H2983 of the Jebusites, H3885 and lodge in it."
  12 H113 His master H559 said H5493 to him, "We won't turn aside H5892 into the city H5237 of a foreigner, H1121 that is not of the children H3478 of Israel; H5674 but we will pass over H1390 to Gibeah."
  13 H559 He said H5288 to his servant, H3212 "Come H7126 and let us draw near H259 to one H4725 of these places; H3885 and we will lodge H1390 in Gibeah, H7414 or in Ramah."
  14 H5674 So they passed on H3212 and went their way; H8121 and the sun H935 went down H681 on them near H1390 to Gibeah, H1144 which belongs to Benjamin.
  15 H5493 They turned aside H935 there, to go in H3885 to lodge H1390 in Gibeah: H935 and he went in, H3427 and sat him down H7339 in the street H5892 of the city; H376 for there was no man H622 who took H1004 them into his house H3885 to lodge.
  16 H935 Behold, there came H2205 an old H376 man H4639 from his work H7704 out of the field H6153 at evening: H376 now the man was H2022 of the hill H669 country of Ephraim, H1481 and he lived H1390 in Gibeah; H582 but the men H4725 of the place H1145 were Benjamites.
  17 H5375 He lifted up H5869 his eyes, H7200 and saw H732 the wayfaring H376 man H7339 in the street H5892 of the city; H2205 and the old H376 man H559 said, H3212 "Where are you going? H370 Where H935 did you come from?"
  18 H559 He said H5674 to him, "We are passing H1035 from Bethlehem Judah H3411 to the farther side H2022 of the hill H669 country of Ephraim. H3212 I am from there, and I went H1035 to Bethlehem Judah. H1980 I am going H1004 to the house H3068 of Yahweh; H376 and there is no man H622 who takes H1004 me into his house.
  19 H3426 Yet there is H8401 both straw H4554 and provender H2543 for our donkeys; H3899 and there is bread H3196 and wine H519 also for me, and for your handmaid, H5288 and for the young man H5650 who is with your servants: H4270 there is no want H1697 of anything."
  20 H2205 The old H376 man H559 said, H7965 "Peace H7535 be to you; howsoever H4270 let all your wants H3885 lie on me; only don't lodge H7339 in the street."
  21 H935 So he brought H1004 him into his house, H2543 and gave the donkeys H1101 fodder; H7364 and they washed H7272 their feet, H398 and ate H8354 and drink.
  22 H3820 As they were making their hearts H3190 merry, H582 behold, the men H5892 of the city, H582 certain H1100 base H582 fellows, H5437 surrounded H5437 the H1004 house, H1849 beating H1817 at the door; H559 and they spoke H1167 to the master H1004 of the house, H2205 the old H376 man, H559 saying, H3318 "Bring out H376 the man H935 who came H1004 into your house, H3045 that we may have sex with him!"
  23 H376 The man, H1167 the master H1004 of the house, H3318 went out H559 to them, and said H408 to them, "No, H251 my brothers, H7489 please don't act so wickedly; H310 since H376 this man H935 has come H1004 into my house, H6213 don't do H5039 this folly.
  24 H1330 Behold, here is my virgin H1323 daughter H6370 and his concubine. H3318 I will bring them out H6031 now. Humble H6213 them, and do H5869 with them what seems H2896 good H376 to you; but to this man H6213 don't do H2063 any H1697 such H5039 folly."
  25 H582 But the men H14 wouldn't H8085 listen H376 to him: so the man H2388 laid H6370 hold of his concubine, H3318 and brought H2351 her out H3045 to them; and they had sex H5953 with her, and abused H3915 her all night H1242 until the morning: H7837 and when the day H5927 began to dawn, H7971 they let her go.
  26 H935 Then came H802 the woman H6437 in the dawning H1242 of the day, H5307 and fell down H6607 at the door H376 of the man's H1004 house H113 where her lord H216 was, until it was light.
  27 H113 Her lord H6965 rose up H1242 in the morning, H6605 and opened H1817 the doors H1004 of the house, H3318 and went out H3212 to go H1870 his way; H802 and behold, the woman H6370 his concubine H5307 was fallen down H6607 at the door H1004 of the house, H3027 with her hands H5592 on the threshold.
  28 H559 He said H6965 to her, "Get up, H3212 and let us be going!" H376 but no one H6030 answered. H376 Then he H3947 took H2543 her up on the donkey; H376 and the man H6965 rose up, H4725 and went to his place.
  29 H935 When he had come H1004 into his house, H3947 he took H3979 a knife, H2388 and laid hold H6370 on his concubine, H5408 and divided H6106 her, limb by limb, H8147 into twelve H5409 pieces, H7971 and sent H1366 her throughout all the borders H3478 of Israel.
