Then he said to her, “Go up in peace to your house. Behold, I have listened to your voice, and have granted your request.”

³⁹ When David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, “Blessed is Yahweh, who has pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and has kept back his servant from evil. Yahweh has returned the evildoing of Nabal on his own head.” David sent and spoke concerning Abigail, to take her to himself as wife. ⁴⁰ When David’s servants had come to Abigail to Carmel, they spoke to her, saying, “David has sent us to you, to take you to him as wife.” ⁴¹ She arose, and bowed herself with her face to the earth, and said, “Behold, your servant is a servant to wash the feet of the servants of my lord.” ⁴² Abigail hurried, and arose, and rode on a donkey, with five ladies of hers who followed her; and she went after the messengers of David, and became his wife.

¹⁰ Listen, daughter, consider, and turn your ear. Forget your own people, and also your father’s house. ¹¹ So the king will desire your beauty, honor him, for he is your lord.

¹¹ The Lord announced the word. The ones who proclaim it are a great company.

¹⁰ But to the married I command—not I, but the Lord—that the wife not leave her husband ¹¹ (but if she departs, let her remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband), and that the husband not leave his wife.

³⁰ Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain; but a woman who fears Yahweh, she shall be praised.
