1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
23 Whoever guards his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.
24 Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
4 A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but deceit in it crushes the spirit.
17 Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father, through him.
12 But above all things, my brothers, don’t swear— not by heaven, or by the earth, or by any other oath; but let your “yes” be “yes”, and your “no”, “no”, so that you don’t fall into hypocrisy.
15 but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him who is the head, Christ,
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue; those who love it will eat its fruit.
19 So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger;
2 For we all stumble in many things. Anyone who doesn’t stumble in word is a perfect person, able to bridle the whole body also. 3 Indeed, we put bits into the horses’ mouths so that they may obey us, and we guide their whole body. 4 Behold, the ships also, though they are so big and are driven by fierce winds, are yet guided by a very small rudder, wherever the pilot desires. 5 So the tongue is also a little member, and boasts great things. See how a small fire can spread to a large forest! 6 And the tongue is a fire. The world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by Gehenna. 7 For every kind of animal, bird, creeping thing, and sea creature, is tamed, and has been tamed by mankind; 8 but nobody can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men who are made in the image of God. 10 Out of the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.
13 The fear of Yahweh is to hate evil. I hate pride, arrogance, the evil way, and the perverse mouth.
13 He who answers before he hears, that is folly and shame to him.
3 My mouth will speak words of wisdom. My heart will utter understanding.
14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, Yahweh, my rock, and my redeemer.
3 Set a watch, Yahweh, before my mouth. Keep the door of my lips.
29 Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear.
