⁴ It is not for kings, Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, nor for princes to say, ‘Where is strong drink?’ ⁵ lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the justice due to anyone who is afflicted. ⁶ Give strong drink to him who is ready to perish, and wine to the bitter in soul. ⁷ Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more. ⁸ Open your mouth for the mute, in the cause of all who are left desolate.

²² I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel. One king will be king to them all. They will no longer be two nations. They won’t be divided into two kingdoms any more at all.

¹ The king’s heart is in Yahweh’s hand like the watercourses. He turns it wherever he desires.

⁴ The king by justice makes the land stable, but he who takes bribes tears it down.

¹ Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God.
