Joshua 1:1-18

1 After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, the LORD spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' servant, saying, 2 "My servant Moses is dead. Get up and cross the Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the Israelites. 3 I'm giving you every place where the sole of your foot falls, just as I promised Moses. 4 Your territorial border will extend from the wilderness to the Lebanon Mountains, from the great River Euphrates all the land of the Hittites as far as the Mediterranean Sea where the sun sets. 5 No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not fail you nor forsake you. 6 Be strong and courageous; for you shall cause this people to inherit the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. 7 Only be strong and very courageous, to observe to do according to all the law, which moses my servant commanded you. do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go. 8 This set of instructions is not to cease being a part of your conversations. meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to carry out everything that's written in it, for then you'll prosper and succeed. 9 Haven't I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don't be afraid. Don't be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” 10 Then Joshua gave orders to the officials of the people. 11 "Pass through the midst of the camp and command the people: 'Prepare your provisions; ⌊in⌋ three days you are to cross the Jordan to go possess the land that the LORD your God is giving you to possess.'" 12 To the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh Joshua said, 13 "Remember the word Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you: 'the LORD your God has given you rest, and has given you this land.'" 14 Your wives, your little ones and your livestock shall live in the land which Moses gave you beyond the Jordan; but all your mighty men of valour shall pass over before your brothers, armed, and shall help them 15 until the LORD has given your brothers rest, as he has given you, and they have also possessed the land which the LORD your God gives them. Then you shall return to the land of your possession, and possess it, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise.'" 16 And they answered Joshua, saying, All that you have commanded us we will do and wherever you send us we will go. 17 Just as we obeyed Moses, so will we obey you. Only may the LORD your God be with you, as he was with Moses. 18 Whoever rebels against your orders and does not obey your words according to what you commanded us will be put to death. Only be strong and courageous."

1 Kings 2:10

10 Then David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.

Psalms 23:1-6

1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul; He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me, even in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Psalms 90:12

12 So teach us to number our days so that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Isaiah 66:1-24

1 the LORD says, “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build to me? Where will I rest? 2 And my hand has made all these things, and all these came to be," declares the LORD, "but I look to this one: to the humble and the contrite of spirit and the one frightened at my word. 3 He who kills an ox is as he who kills a man; he who sacrifices a lamb, as he who breaks a dog's neck; he who offers an offering, as he who offers pig's blood; he who burns frankincense, as he who blesses an idol. Yes, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations: 4 "Therefore I will choose harsh treatment for them and bring on them what they fear. I called, but no one answered. I spoke, but they did not listen. They did what I consider evil. They chose what I do not like." 5 Hear the word of the LORD, you who tremble at his word: Your brothers who hate you, who cast you out for my name's sake, have said, Let the LORD be glorified, that we may see your joy. But it is those who will be put to shame. 6 "Listen to the uproar from the city. Listen to the sound from the temple. It is the sound of the LORD paying back his enemies as they deserve. 7 Before she was in labor she gave birth; before labor pains came to her, she gave birth to a son. 8 "Who has heard of such a thing? Who has seen such things? Can a country be born in one day? Can a nation be born in a moment? When Zion went into labor, she also gave birth to her sons. 9 "Do I bring a mother to the moment of birth and not let her deliver?" Asks the LORD. "Do I cause a mother to deliver and then make her unable to have children?" Asks your God. 10 "Rejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad for her, all you who love her: rejoice for joy with her, all you who mourn over her; 11 "You will nurse and be satisfied from her comforting breasts. You will nurse and be satisfied at her full breasts." 12 This is what the LORD says: "I will offer you peace like a river and the wealth of the nations like an overflowing stream. You will nurse and be carried in Jerusalem's arms and cuddled on her knees. 13 "As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you. You will be comforted in Jerusalem." 14 When you see it, your heart will rejoice and you will flourish like new grass. The power of the LORD will be made known to his servants, but he will condemn his enemies. 15 For behold, the LORD will come with fire, and his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire. 16 For by fire and by His sword the LORD will execute judgment with all flesh; and the slain of the LORD will be many. 17 Those who sanctify themselves and purify themselves to go to the gardens, behind one in the midst, eating swine's flesh and the abomination and the mouse, they will come to an end together, says the LORD. 18 And I know their works and their imagination. I am going to gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory. 19 "I will set up a sign among them and send some of their survivors to the nations: to Tarshish, Put and Lud, Meshech, Rosh, Tubal, Javan, and to the distant coastlands who have not heard of my fame or seen my glory. They will tell about my glory among the nations. 20 They will bring all your brothers from every nation like a grain offering to the LORD. They will come on horses, in chariots, in wagons, on mules and camels to my holy mountain, Jerusalem, declares the LORD. They will come like the people of Israel who bring their grain offerings in clean dishes to the LORD’s temple. 21 And I will also take some of them for myself as priests and Levites," says the LORD. 22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, will remain before me, says the LORD, so will your seed and your name remain. 23 And it will be, from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, all flesh will come to worship before Me, says the LORD. 24 “They will go out, and look at the dead bodies of the men who have transgressed against me; for their worm will not die, nor will their fire be quenched, and they will be loathsome to all mankind.”

John 5:28-29

1 After all the nation finished crossing the Jordan, the LORD said to Joshua, 2 "Take twelve men from the people, one man from each tribe, 3 and tell them, 'Pick up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan where the priests' feet were standing, bring them along with you, and put them down where you camp tonight.'" 4 So Joshua summoned the twelve men whom he had appointed from the Israelites, one from each tribe. 5 And Joshua said to them, "Cross over before the ark of the LORD your God to the middle of the Jordan, and each one of you lift up a stone on your shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, 6 Let this serve as a sign among you, so that when your children ask in times to come, 'What do these stones mean to you,' 7 then you shall tell them, 'Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel forever.'"
