⁴ I tell you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more.

² They will put you out of the synagogues. In fact, a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering a service to God.

¹ Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which is from God. The authorities that exist have been appointed by God. ² Consequently, the one who resists authority is opposing what God has set in place, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. ³ For rulers are not a terror for those who do good works, but to those who do evil. Do you want to have no fear of the one in authority? do that which is good, and you shall have his praise: ⁴ For he is God's servant to you for good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain; he is God's servant, an avenger to execute wrath on the wrongdoer. ⁵ Therefore, it is necessary to submit to authority, not only to avoid punishment, but also as a matter of conscience. ⁶ This is also why you pay taxes. For the authorities are God’s servants, who devote themselves to their work. ⁷ Therefore give everyone what you owe: if you owe taxes, pay taxes; if customs, then customs; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

⁴ He will judge between the nations, and will decide concerning many peoples. They shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

³⁸ You have heard that it was said, "Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth." ³⁹ But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. But if someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.

¹⁷ LORD, you heard the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen them, you will listen carefully, ¹⁸ to judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that man who is of the earth may terrify no more.

⁴⁴ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, ⁴⁵ that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. ⁴⁶ If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Do not even tax collectors do the same? ⁴⁷ And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even Gentiles do the same? ⁴⁸ Be perfect, therefore, as your Heavenly Father is perfect.

¹⁴ Turn from evil and do good. Seek peace and pursue it.

⁶ You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. These things must happen, but the end is still to come. ⁷ Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. ⁸ All these are the beginning of birth pains. ⁹ Then they will hand you over to be persecuted and killed, and you will be hated by all nations on account of My name. ¹⁰ At that time many will fall away and will betray and hate one another, ¹¹ Many false prophets will appear and deceive many people, ¹² Because of the multiplication of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold. ¹³ but those who stand firm to the End shall be saved. ¹⁴ And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

¹⁹ Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but leave room for God’s wrath. For it is written: “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” ²⁰ On the contrary, “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink. For in so doing, you will heap burning coals on his head.” ²¹ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

¹⁶ Here are six things that the LORD hates seven, in fact, are detestable to him: ¹⁷ haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood; ¹⁸ a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are swift in running to mischief, ¹⁹ a false witness who utters lies, and he who sows discord among brothers.
