Psalms 150:1-6

1 Praise the LORD! Praise God in his holy place. Praise him in his mighty heavens. 2 Praise him for his mighty acts. Praise him for his immense greatness. 3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet! Praise him with harp and lyre! 4 Praise him with tambourine and dancing; praise him with strings and flute. 5 Praise him with loud cymbals! Praise him with resounding cymbals! 6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD.

Genesis 1:1-31

1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. 3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good. God separated the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. 6 Then God said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters, separating water from water!" 7 So God made the expanse, separating the water beneath the expanse from the water above it. And so it was. 8 God called the expanse sky. There was evening and there was morning, a second day. 9 And God said, "Let the waters under heaven be gathered to one place, and let the dry ground appear." And it was so. 10 And God called the dry land Earth, and the gatherings of the waters he called Seas, and God saw that it was good. 11 Then God said: "Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them." It was so. 12 The earth sprouted vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit, with its seed in it, after their kind; and God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening and there was morning, the third day. 14 God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs to mark seasons, days, and years; 15 and let them be for lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth;” and it was so. 16 God made the two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light to the earth, 18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day. 20 God said, “Let the waters abound with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open expanse of the sky.” 21 And God created the great whales, and every living and moving creature, which the waters brought forth, according to their kinds, and every winged fowl according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them and said: "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth." 23 And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day. 24 God said: "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind." It was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds. He made the livestock according to their kinds and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. God saw that it was good. 26 Then God said: "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness. Let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth and over all the creatures that move along the ground." 27 And God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him, male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them: "Be fruitful and increase in number. Fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and dominate the birds of the air. Have dominion over every living creature that moves on the ground." 29 Then God said: "I give you every plant that bears seed on the face of the entire earth. I also give you every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 "Also every beast of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground; everything that has the breath of life in it, I give every green plant for food." It was so. 31 God saw all that he had made. It was very good. There was evening, and there was morning, the sixth day.

Exodus 20:8-11

8 "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work. 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. And you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male or female servants, nor your livestock, nor the alien who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and all that is in them, and he rested on the seventh day. Therefore, the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Acts 20:7

7 On the first day of the week, when we had met to break bread, Paul began to address the people. Since he intended to leave the next day, he went on speaking until midnight.

Luke 24:1-53

1 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women came to the tomb, bringing the spices they had prepared. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were at a loss about this, suddenly two men in glittering robes stood beside them. 5 They were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why are you looking for the living among the dead? 6 He is not here; He has risen! Remember how He told you while He was still in Galilee: 7 'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again.'" 8 Then they remembered his words, 9 When they returned from the tomb they told all these things to the eleven, and to all the rest. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them who told this to the apostles. 11 But their words seemed like nonsense to them, and they did not believe the women. 12 But Peter arose and ran to the tomb; and stooping down, he saw the linen wrappings lying by themselves; and he went away, marveling to himself at what had happened. 13 That same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. 14 They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. 15 And as they talked and deliberated, Jesus Himself came up and walked along with them. 16 But their eyes were kept from recognizing him. 17 He asked them, “What are you discussing so intently as you walk along?” They stood still, with sadness on their faces. 18 Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, "Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem and do not know the things that have happened there in these days?" 19 "What things?" He asked. "The things about Jesus the Nazarene," they said, "who was a Prophet powerful in work and word before God and all the people; 20 and how the chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be condemned to death, and they crucified him. 21 But we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, it is the third day since all this happened. 22 Furthermore, some of our women amazed us. They were at the tomb early this morning, 23 and not found his body, they came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said that he is alive. 24 Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had described. But Him they did not see.” 25 He said to them, “Foolish men, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and enter his glory?" 27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he explained to them the things in all the scriptures, concerning himself. 28 Then they approached the village to which they were going, and He acted as though He were going on farther, 29 But they pleaded with Him, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening and the day is almost over.” So He went in to stay with them. 30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him; but he disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked one another, “Were not our hearts burning within us as He spoke with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” 33 And they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem. There they found the eleven and those with them, gathered together 34 and saying, "Really the Lord has risen and he has appeared to Simon." 35 And they told what had happened on the road, and how he was recognized by them in the breaking of bread. 36 While they were all talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you." 37 But they were startled and frightened, thinking they had seen a spirit. 38 And he said to them, Why are you troubled? and why do doubts arise in your minds? 39 Look at My hands and My feet. It is I Myself. Touch Me and see—for a spirit does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.” 40 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. 41 And while they still did not believe because of joy, and marvelled, he said to them, Have you anything here to eat? 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he took it and ate it in their presence. 44 Jesus said to them, “These are the words I spoke to you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms.” 45 Then he opened their minds, so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 And He told them, “This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 And I will send to you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high. 50 When Jesus had led them out as far as Bethany, He lifted up His hands and blessed them. 51 While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up to heaven. 52 Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, 53 and they were continually in the temple, praising God.

John 20:1-31

1 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. 2 So she came running to Simon Peter and that other disciple whom Jesus loved, saying, "They have taken the Master out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him!" 3 So Peter and the other disciple set out for the tomb; 4 They both ran, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 He bent down and looked in at the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter also came following him, and he went into the tomb and saw the strips of linen cloth lying there, 7 The face cloth that had been around Jesus’ head was rolled up, lying separate from the linen cloths. 8 Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in. And he saw and believed. 9 For they still did not understand from the Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead. 10 Then the disciples went back to their homes. 11 But Mary stood outside the tomb weeping. And as she wept, she bent down to look into the tomb, 12 She saw two angels in white seated where the body of Jesus had been, one at the head and the other at the feet. 13 They asked her, "Lady, why are you crying?" She told them, "Because they have taken away my Lord, and I don't know where they have put him." 14 Saying this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus asked her, "Dear lady, why are you crying? Who are you looking for?" Thinking he was the gardener, she said to him, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will take him away." 16 Jesus said to her, "Mary." She turned around and said to him in Aramaic, "Rabboni" (which means "Teacher"). 17 Jesus said to her, "Do not touch me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers, and tell them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'" 18 Mary Magdalene went and told the disciples: I have seen the Lord! And she told them that he had said these things to her. 19 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you." 20 And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. 21 Again Jesus said to them, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, so also I am sending you.” 22 After saying this, he breathed on them, and said: "Receive the Holy Spirit; 23 If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you withhold forgiveness from anyone, it is withheld.” 24 Now Thomas called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he replied, “Unless I see the nail marks in His hands, and put my finger where the nails have been, and put my hand into His side, I will never believe.” 26 Just a week later the disciples were in the room again and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were bolted, Jesus came in and stood among them, and said, "Peace be with you!" 27 Then Jesus said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and look at My hands. Reach out your hand and put it into My side. Stop doubting and believe.” 28 And Thomas said to him, My Lord and my God. 29 Jesus said to him, Because you have seen me, you have believed: blessed are those who have not seen, and yet have believed. 30 Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 But these are written, that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God: and that believing, you may have life in his name.

Exodus 12:16

16 And the first day is a holy convocation and the seventh day becomes a holy convocation to you; work not therein, except what every soul eat - only work that:

1 Corinthians 16:2
