¹ Moses answered, "But, look, they will not believe me, nor listen to my voice; for they will say, 'The LORD has not appeared to you.'" ² The LORD said to him, "What is that in your hand?" He said, "A rod." ³ the LORD said: "Throw it on the ground." When Moses threw it on the ground, it became a snake, and he ran away from it. ⁴ the LORD said to Moses, Stretch out your hand, and take it by the tail. He stretched out his hand, and took hold of it, and it became a rod in his hand. ⁵ “This is so that they may believe that the LORD, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.” ⁶ Again the LORD said to him, "Put your hand into your bosom." He put his hand into his bosom and as soon as he brought it out it was leprous, like snow. ⁷ Then God said, "Put your hand back into your bosom." He returned it to his bosom and as soon as he brought it out, it was restored like the rest of his skin. ⁸ "Then if they don't believe you and respond to the first sign, they may respond to the second sign. ⁹ But if they don't believe even these two signs, and won't listen to you, then take some water out of the Nile and pour it on the dry ground. The water you took from the Nile will turn into blood on the dry ground."

¹⁷ And these signs will accompany those who believe: In My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; ¹⁸ they will pick up snakes with their hands; even if they drink any deadly poison it will not hurt them; and they will place their hands on the sick, and they will recover." ¹⁹ After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.

¹² He sighed deeply and said, "Why does this generation ask for a sign? In truth I tell you no sign will be given to this generation."

³ While Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will all this happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming and of the end of the age?”

¹⁴ God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs to mark seasons, days, and years;

³ He gave a sign the same day, saying, "This is the sign which the LORD has spoken: Look, the altar will be split apart, and the ashes that are on it will be poured out." ⁴ And when king Jeroboam heard the words of the man of God, who cried against the altar, he stretched forth his hand from the altar, saying, Seize him: and behold his hand, which he stretched forth against him withered so that he could not draw it back to him. ⁵ And the altar was split apart, and the fatness was poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God gave by the word of the Lord.

³⁸ Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to him, "Teacher, we want to see a sign from you."

¹¹ This, the first of the miraculous signs, Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee and revealed His glory; and His disciples believed into Him.

²² Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers, but for unbelievers. Prophecy, however, is for believers, not for unbelievers.

³ and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but not the signs of the times!

⁴ “Tell us, when will all these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to be fulfilled?”
