¹⁹ "On the other hand a man may be chastened on a bed of pain with constant distress in his bones.

³⁰ Wounding blows cleanse away evil, and beatings purge the innermost parts.

³ Not only that, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; ⁴ perseverance, character; and character, hope. ⁵ And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.

¹⁸ Why is my pain unending and my wound incurable, refusing to be healed? You are like a deceptive brook, whose waters cannot be depended on.

¹¹ For I know the plans that I have for you,' says the LORD, 'plans for your welfare, and not for calamity, to give you hope and a future.

¹⁹ Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; ²⁰ you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body.

¹³ I can do anything through him who gives me strength.

¹² Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial that has come upon you, as though something strange were happening to you. ¹³ But rejoice that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may also be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.

¹⁹ So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should entrust their souls to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.

¹⁷ The night pierces my bones on me, and my gnawings never lie down.

³ The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed, and restore him from his bed of illness.

¹⁸ I consider that our present sufferings are not comparable to the glory that will be revealed in us.

⁴ He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away.”
