¹ Guard your steps when you go to the house of God; draw near to listen rather than to offer a sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they are doing evil. ² Do not be rash with your mouth, and do not let your heart be hasty to utter anything before God; for God is in heaven, and you on earth. Therefore let your words be few. ³ For a dream comes with many cares, and the voice of a fool with many words. ⁴ When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it, for he takes no pleasure in fools. Fulfill what you vow! ⁵ It is better not to vow, than to vow and not perform. ⁶ Do not allow your mouth to lead you into sin. Do not protest before the messenger that this was a mistake. Why should God be angry at your voice, and destroy the work of your hands? ⁷ For in many dreams and vanities, there are many words; Therefore fear the One, Elohim." ⁸ If you see the oppression of the poor, and the violent taking away of justice and righteousness in a district, don't marvel at the matter: for one official is eyed by a higher one; and there are officials over them. ⁹ Moreover the profit of the earth is for all. The king profits from the field. ¹⁰ Whoever loves money is not satisfied with money, and whoever loves wealth is not satisfied with profit. This also is vanity! ¹¹ When good things increase, those who consume them increase. So what is the advantage to their owners except to see them? ¹² The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, whether he eats little or much; but the abundance of the rich will not allow him to sleep. ¹³ There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun: wealth hoarded by its owner to his harm. ¹⁴ Those riches perish by misfortune, and if he has fathered a son, there is nothing in his hand. ¹⁵ As he came forth from his mother's womb, naked shall he go again as he came, and shall take nothing for his labor, which he may carry away in his hand. ¹⁶ This also is a grievous illness. Exactly as he came, so he will go. What profit does he gain for all his toil for the wind? ¹⁷ All his days he also eats in darkness, he is frustrated, and has sickness and wrath. ¹⁸ This is what I have seen: it is good and fair for a man to take meat and drink and to have joy in all his work under the sun, all the days of his life which God has given him; that is his reward. ¹⁹ Every man also to whom God has given riches and wealth, and has given him power to eat of it, and to accept his lot, and to rejoice in his labor; this is the gift of God. ²⁰ For he shall not much remember the days of his life; because God keeps him busy with the joy of his heart.

¹ Of David. Do not fret because of evildoers; do not be envious of doers of wickedness. ² For like the grass they will dry up quickly, and like green vegetation they will wither. ³ Trust in the LORD, and do good. Dwell in the land, and enjoy safe pasture. ⁴ Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. ⁵ Commit your way to the LORD. Trust also in him, and he will do this: ⁶ He will cause your righteousness to shine like a light, your just cause like the noonday sun. ⁷ Surrender to the LORD and wait patiently for him. Do not be preoccupied with an evildoer who succeeds in his way when he carries out his schemes. ⁸ Cease from anger, and forsake wrath. Do not fret, it leads only to evildoing. ⁹ For evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait for the LORD shall inherit the land. ¹⁰ For yet a little while, and the wicked will be no more. Yes, though you look for his place, he isn’t there. ¹¹ But the meek shall inherit the land, and shall delight in abundance of peace. ¹² The wicked plotteth against the righteous, and gnasheth his teeth against him. ¹³ the Lord laughs at him, for He sees that his day is coming. ¹⁴ The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, to kill those who walk uprightly. ¹⁵ But their sword will pierce their own heart, and their bows will be broken! ¹⁶ Better is a little that the righteous has, than the abundance of many wicked. ¹⁷ For the arms of the wicked will be broken, but the LORD upholds the righteous. ¹⁸ The days of the upright are numbered by the Lord, and their heritage will be for ever. ¹⁹ In time of troubles they shall not be shamed, and in days of famine they shall be plentifully fed. ²⁰ But the wicked shall perish. The enemies of Yahweh shall be like the beauty of the fields. They will vanish— vanish like smoke. ²¹ The wicked borrow, and do not pay back, but the righteous give generously. ²² For those blessed by God will inherit the land, but those cursed by him will be cut off. ²³ The LORD ordereth a good man's going, and hath pleasure in his way. ²⁴ Though he stumble, he shall not fall, for the LORD holds him up with his hand. ²⁵ I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his children begging for bread. ²⁶ He is always generous and lends freely. His descendants are a blessing. ²⁷ Depart from evil, and do good, and you will live in the land forever. ²⁸ For the LORD loves justice and will not forsake his faithful ones. They are protected forever. But the children of the wicked will be cut off. ²⁹ The righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it forever. ³⁰ The mouth of the righteous uttereth wisdom, and his tongue speaketh what is just. ³¹ The law of his God is in his heart; his steps do not slide. ³² The wicked looketh out for the righteous, and seeketh to slay him. ³³ the LORD will not leave him in his hand or let him be condemned when he is judged. ³⁴ Wait for the LORD, and keep his way, and he will exalt you to inherit the land. When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it. ³⁵ I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading like a green tree in its native soil: ³⁶ yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not; and I looked for him, but he could not be found. ³⁷ Observe the blameless, and see the upright, for there is a future for the man of peace. ³⁸ Sinners will be destroyed together; the future of the wicked will be cut off. ³⁹ The salvation of the righteous is from the LORD. He is their stronghold in the time of trouble. ⁴⁰ the LORD helps them and delivers them. He delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take put their trust in Him.

³³ But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be given to you as well.

²⁵ Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? ²⁶ Look at the birds of the air: They do not sow or reap or gather into barns—and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? ²⁷ Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his lifespan? ²⁸ And why do you worry about clothes? Consider how the lilies of the field grow: They do not labor or spin. ²⁹ But I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was arrayed like one of these. ³⁰ If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? ³¹ Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' ³² For the pagans pursue all these things, and your Heavenly Father knows that you need them. ³³ But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be given to you as well. ³⁴ Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.
