¹ My son, if you will receive my words, and store up my commandments within you, ² so as to turn your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; ³ if, indeed, you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, ⁴ If you seek it as for silver And search for it as for buried treasures, ⁵ then you will understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. ⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. ⁷ He lays up sound wisdom for the upright. He is a shield to those who walk in integrity, ⁸ guarding the paths of the just and protecting the way of his faithful ones. ⁹ Then you will understand what is right, just, and upright every good path. ¹⁰ For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. ¹¹ Discretion will protect you; understanding will watch over you, ¹² to rescue you from the way of evil - from the man who words perversions: ¹³ Who leave the right way, and walk by dark ways: ¹⁴ who delight in doing evil, and rejoice in the perverseness of evil; ¹⁵ whose paths are crooked and who are devious in their ways, ¹⁶ delivering you from the adulteress, from the immoral woman with her seductive words, ¹⁷ who forsakes the prince of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God. ¹⁸ For her house leads down to death, and her paths down to the realm of the dead. ¹⁹ None who go to her return, nor do they reach the paths of life. ²⁰ That you may walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous. ²¹ For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the blameless shall remain in it ²² But the wicked will be cut off from the land, and the treacherous will be uprooted from it.

⁶⁶ Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I believe in your commandments.

⁶ My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, that you may be no priest to Me. Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I will also forget your children.

⁸ To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by the same Spirit,

¹⁴ A discerning mind seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on stupidity.

¹ My son, do not forget my teaching; but let your heart keep my commandments: ² for they will add to you length of days, years of life, and peace. ³ Do not let kindness and truth leave you. Bind them around your neck. Write them on the tablet of your heart. ⁴ So you will find favor, and good understanding in the sight of God and man. ⁵ Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not to your own understanding. ⁶ In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. ⁷ Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and depart from evil. ⁸ This will bring healing to your body, and refreshment to your bones. ⁹ Honor the LORD with your substance, with the first fruits of all your increase: ¹⁰ So your barns will be filled with abundance, and your vats will burst open with new wine. ¹¹ My son, do not reject the LORD's discipline, and do not despise his correction, ¹² because the LORD corrects the person he loves, just as a father corrects the son he delights in. ¹³ Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gets understanding. ¹⁴ For her good profit is better than getting silver, and her return is better than fine gold. ¹⁵ She is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire compares with her. ¹⁶ Long life is in her right hand. In her left hand are riches and honor. ¹⁷ Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peaceful. ¹⁸ She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her, and those who hold on to her are blessed ¹⁹ By wisdom the LORD laid the earth's foundations, and by understanding he set the heavens in place. ²⁰ By his knowledge the depths were rent, and the clouds will drop dew. ²¹ My son, keep good sense, and do not let wise purpose go from your eyes. ²² They will mean life to you and adornment to your neck. ²³ Then you will walk in your way securely and your foot will not stumble. ²⁴ When you sit down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be pleasant. ²⁵ Do not be afraid of sudden disaster, or the devastation that comes to the wicked. ²⁶ for the LORD will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being taken. ²⁷ Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act. ²⁸ Do not say to your neighbor, "Go, and come back. I will pay you tomorrow," when you have cash with you. ²⁹ Do not plot harm against your neighbor who dwells in confidence beside you. ³⁰ Do not sue a man without cause, if he has done thee no harm. ³¹ Do not envy the cruel man, and choose none of his ways. ³² the LORD hates people who do evil. He takes righteous people into his confidence. ³³ The LORD's curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the dwelling of the righteous. ³⁴ Surely He mocks the mockers, but He gives grace to the humble. ³⁵ The wise inherit honor, but the foolish exalt shame.

¹ Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge. He that hates reproof is stupid.

¹⁰ Receive my instruction rather than silver, knowledge rather than choice gold.

⁵ A wise man is strong; and a man of knowledge increaseth strength.

⁶ My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, that you may be no priest to Me. Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I will also forget your children. ⁷ The more they were increased, the more they sinned against Me; I will change their glory into shame.

⁷ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

¹⁰ For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.

¹⁵ The heart of the discerning gets knowledge; the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.
