¹ Then I saw the lamb open the first of the seven seals. I heard one of the four living creatures say with a voice like thunder, "Go!" ² And in my vision I saw 'a white horse.' Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he went out conquering and to conquer. ³ When the lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, "Go!" ⁴ And another horse came forth, bright red, and its rider was given power to take peace away from the earth, and make men slaughter one another; he was given a great sword. ⁵ When the lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, "Go!" I looked, and there was a black horse! Its rider held a scale in his hand. ⁶ And I heard what sounded like a voice from among the four living creatures, saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius, and do not waste the oil and the wine.” ⁷ When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, "Come!" ⁸ Then I looked and saw a pale horse. Its rider’s name was Death, and Hades followed close behind. And they were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill by sword, by famine, by plague, and by the beasts of the earth.

And he said, "Go, patrol the earth." And they patrolled the earth.

Both of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. ²¹ The rest were killed with the sword that came out of the mouth of him who sat on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves upon their bodies.

Do you clothe his neck with a mane? ²⁰ Can you make him leap like a locust; the majesty of his snorting is terrifying? ²¹ He paws in the valley, and rejoices in his strength; he goes on to meet the weapons. ²² "It laughs at fear, is afraid of nothing, and does not back away from swords. ²³ A quiver of arrows rattles against his side, along with a flashing spear and a lance. ²⁴ Leaping in his excitement, he takes in the ground; he cannot stand still when the trumpets sound!

⁸ Their horses are more swift than leopards; they are more menacing than wolves at dusk. Their horsemen gallop; their horsemen come from afar; they fly like an eagle that is swift to devour.

³ When we put bits into the mouths of the horses to make them obey us, we can guide the whole animal.

³¹ The horse is prepared for the day of battle; but victory is with the LORD.
