³³ But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be given to you as well.

¹ Then Naomi her mother-in-law said to her: "My daughter, Should I try to find a secure home for you where you will be well treated? ² Now isn’t Boaz our kinsman, with whose maidens you were? Behold, he will be winnowing barley tonight on the threshing floor. ³ "Wash and perfume yourself and put on your best clothes. Go down to the floor. Make yourself known to the man after he is done eating and drinking. ⁴ When he lies down, be sure to notice where he is resting. Then go over, uncover his feet, and lie down. He'll tell you what to do." ⁵ Ruth said: "All that you say to me I will do." ⁶ She went down to the threshing floor, and did everything that her mother-in-law told her. ⁷ After Boaz ate and drank, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of barley. Ruth approached quietly, uncovered his feet, and lay down. ⁸ In the middle of the night, Boaz was startled awake and turned over in surprise to see a woman lying at his feet. ⁹ He said: "Who are you?" She answered: "I am your servant Ruth. Spread your garment over me, for you are my kinsman." ¹⁰ He said: "You are blessed of the LORD, my daughter: for this kindness is greater than what you showed earlier. You have not pursued younger men, whether poor or rich. ¹¹ And now, my daughter, do not fear. I will do to you all that you ask. For all the city of my people knows that you are a woman of virtue. ¹² And now it is true that I am thy near kinsman: yet there is a kinsman nearer than I. ¹³ Stay tonight, and in the morning, if he wants to redeem you, good; but if he is not willing to redeem, then as the LORD lives, I will redeem you. Lie down until the morning." ¹⁴ So she lay at his feet until morning and got up before anyone could recognize each other. And he said, "It must not be known that you came to the threshing floor." ¹⁵ Also he said, Bring the veil that you have on you, and hold it. And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her: and she went into the city. ¹⁶ When Ruth returned to her mother-in-law, Naomi asked her, "How did it go, my daughter?" Then she related everything that the man had done for her. ¹⁷ Ruth also said, "He gave me these six units of barley and told me, 'Don't go back to your mother-in-law empty-handed.'" ¹⁸ Then she said, “Wait, my daughter, until you know what will happen; for the man will not rest until he has settled this today.”

¹ Now Boaz went up to the gate and sat down there. Behold, the near kinsman of whom Boaz spoke came by. Boaz said to him, “Come over here, friend, and sit down!” He came over, and sat down. ² And Boaz took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, Sit here; and they sat down. ³ He said to the near kinsman, "Naomi, who has come back out of the country of Moab, is selling the parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech's. ⁴ I thought to disclose it to you saying, 'Buy it in the presence of those who sit here, and of the elders of my people'. If you will redeem it, redeem it; but if you will not redeem it, then let me know. You have first right to redeem it; and I am next in line. He said, I will redeem it. ⁵ Then Boaz said, "On the day you buy the field from the hand of Naomi and from Ruth the Moabitess, you must also aquire the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead on his inheritance." ⁶ And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem for myself, lest I mar my own inheritance. You redeem my right to yourself, for I cannot redeem. ⁷ Now this was the custom in former time in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning exchanging, to confirm all things: a man took off his sandal, and gave it to his neighbor; and this was the way of formalizing transactions in Israel.

¹⁹ Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and he let none of His words fall to the ground. ²⁰ All Israel from Dan to Beersheba realized that Samuel was faithful as a prophet to the LORD.

⁸ So the redeemer said to Boaz, "Acquire it for yourself," and he removed his sandal. ⁹ Then Boaz said to the leaders and all the others there: "You are all witnesses today that I have bought from Naomi everything that belonged to Elimelech and to his sons Chilion and Mahlon. ¹⁰ And moreover, Ruth the Moabite, the wife of Mahlon, do I take unto me to wife to stir up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that his name be not put out from among his brethren, and from the gate of his city: ye are witnesses this day." ¹¹ And all of the people who were at the gate and the elders said, "We are witnesses. May the LORD make the woman coming into your house as Rachel and as Leah, who together built the house of Israel. May you have strength in Ephrathah and bestow a name in Bethlehem. ¹² And let thy house be as the house of Phares, whom Thamar bore to Juda, of the seed which the Lord shall give thee of this handmaid. ¹³ So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife; and he went in to her, and the LORD enabled her to conceive, and she bore a son. ¹⁴ The women said to Naomi, “Blessed be the LORD, who has not left you today without a near kinsman. Let his name be famous in Israel. ¹⁵ He shall be to you a restorer of life and sustain you in your old age; for your daughter-in-law, who loves you, who is better to you than seven sons, has given birth to him.” ¹⁶ Naomi took the child, laid him in her bosom, and became nurse to him. ¹⁷ The women, her neighbors, gave him a name, saying, “A son is born to Naomi”. They named him Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David. ¹⁸ Now these are the generations of Perez: Perez became the father of Hezron; ¹⁹ Hezron fathered Ram, and Ram fathered Amminadab. ²⁰ Amminadab begat Nahshon, Nahshon begat Salmon, ²¹ Salmon became the father of Boaz, and Boaz became the father of Obed. ²² and Obed fathered Jesse, and Jesse fathered David.

⁷ "Your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be.

¹⁰ Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will multiply the harvest of your righteousness.

⁵ Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in youunless, indeed, you fail the test? ⁶ I trust that you will realize that we have not failed the test. ⁷ Now we pray to God that you will not do anything wrong—not that we will appear to have stood the test, but that you will do what is right, even if we appear to have failed.

⁹ And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and profound insight,

² through whom we have obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in our hope of the glory of God. ³ Not only that, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; ⁴ perseverance, character; and character, hope. ⁵ And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us. ⁶ For at just the right time, while we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.

¹ Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith in God,

¹² Although by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to reteach you the basic principles of God’s word. You need milk, not solid food! ¹³ Everyone who lives on milk is still an infant, inexperienced in the message of righteousness. ¹⁴ But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained their sensibilities to distinguish good from evil.

¹⁵ Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that all may see your progress.

¹⁸ But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.
