Judges 13:3-24

3 The angel of the LORD appeared to the woman and said to her, Look now, you are barren and childless but you will conceive and bear a son. 4 And now, watch now, and drink not wine and strong drink, and thou shalt not eat any thing unclean: 5 because you will conceive and bear a son. No razor will touch his head, because the boy will be a Nazirite of God from birth. And it is he who will begin to deliver Israel from the hand of the Philistines." 6 Then the woman told her husband: »A man of God came to me. He looked as frightening as the angel of God. I did not ask him where he came from, and he did not tell me his name. 7 And he said to me, 'Look, you will conceive and bear a son, so then, do not drink wine or strong drink, and do not eat anything unclean, for the boy will be a Nazirite of God from birth until the day of his death.'" 8 Then Manoah prayed to the LORD: "Please, the LORD, let the man of God that you sent come back to teach us what we must do with the boy when he is born." 9 God did what Manoah asked. His angel came back to the woman while she was in the field. Her husband Manoah was not with her, 10 The woman quickly ran and told her husband, and said to him, The man has appeared to me, who came to me that day. 11 Manoah arose and followed his wife, and came to the man, and said to him, “Are you the man who spoke to my wife?” He said, “I am.” 12 Manoah asked, "Now, when what you've said occurs, what is to be the young man's way of life and work?" 13 the LORD's angel answered: "Your wife must be sure to do everything I told her. 14 She should not eat of anything that comes from the vine, or drink wine or strong drink, or eat anything unclean; she should keep all that I commanded." 15 And Manoah said to the angel of the LORD, "Please stay, and let us prepare a young goat for you." 16 The angel of the LORD said to Manoah, Though you detain me, I won't eat your food, and if you prepare a burnt offering, you must offer it to the LORD. Manoah didn't know that he was the angel of the LORD. 17 And Manoah said to the angel of the LORD, "What is your name so that when your words come true we may honor you?" 18 The angel asked: "Why do you want to know my name? It is ‘Wonderful.’" (Isaiah 9:6) 19 So Manoah took the young goat with the meal offering, and offered it on the rock to the LORD. Then the angel did an amazing thing as Manoah and his wife watched. 20 And when the flame ascended above the altar, up towards heaven, the angel of the Lord ascended in the flame. When Manoe and his wife saw this, they fell flat with their face to the ground. 21 But the angel of the LORD did not appear again to Manoah or to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was the angel of the LORD. 22 whereupon he said to his wife, We shall surely die, for we have seen God. 23 But his wife said to him, If the LORD wanted to kill us He wouldn't have accepted a burnt offering and a grain offering from us, neither would He have shown us all these things, nor would He have told us such things as these. 24 The woman gave birth to a son and named him Samson. The child grew and the LORD blessed him.
