Bible verses about "traditions" | UKJV

Jeremiah 10:1-5

1 Hear all of you the word which the LORD speaks unto you, O house of Israel: 2 Thus says the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. 3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cuts a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. 4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. 5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must essentially be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.

Matthew 15:3-20

3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do all of you also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? 4 For God commanded, saying, Honour your father and mother: and, He that curses father or mother, let him die the death. 5 But all of you say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever you might be profited by me; 6 And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have all of you made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. 7 All of you hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, 8 This people draws nigh unto me with their mouth, and honors me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. 9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. 10 And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand: 11 Not that which goes into the mouth defiles a man; but that which comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man. 12 Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Know you that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying? (o. logos) 13 But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father has not planted, shall be rooted up. 14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch. 15 Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable. 16 And Jesus said, Are all of you also yet without understanding? 17 Do not all of you yet understand, that whatsoever enters in at the mouth goes into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? 18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: 20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashed hands defiles not a man.

Matthew 15:2-6

2 Why do your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.

2 Thessalonians 3:6

Mark 7:3-9

3 For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands often, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders. 4 And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brazen vessels, and of tables. 5 Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not your disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands? 6 He answered and said unto them, Well has Isaiah prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. 7 Nevertheless in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. 8 For laying aside the commandment of God, all of you hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things all of you do. 9 And he said unto them, Full well all of you reject the commandment of God, that all of you may keep your own tradition.

2 Thessalonians 2:14-15

1 Be all of you followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. 2 Now I praise you, brethren, that all of you remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you.

2 Timothy 4:2-4

2 Preach the word; (o. logos) be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Matthew 15:6

6 And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have all of you made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.

2 Thessalonians 2:15

15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which all of you have been taught, whether by word, (o. logos) or our epistle.
