⁴ In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honors them that fear the LORD. He that swears to his own hurt, and changes not.

¹⁶ For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife.

¹⁸ And to whom swore he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?

²⁸ For the law makes men high priests which have infirmity; but the word (o. logos) of the oath, which was since the law, makes the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.

²¹ (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord swore and will not repent, You are a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)

¹⁷ Wherein God, willing more abundantly to show unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:

¹³ For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he swore by himself,

²¹ When you shall vow a vow unto the LORD your God, you shall not slack to pay it: for the LORD your God will surely require it of you; and it would be sin in you. ²² But if you shall forbear to vow, it shall be no sin in you. ²³ That which is gone out of your lips you shall keep and perform; even a freewill offering, according as you have vowed unto the LORD your God, which you have promised with your mouth.

² If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.

¹² But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest all of you fall into condemnation.

³³ Again, all of you have heard that it has been said by them of old time, You shall not renounce swearing yourself, but shall perform unto the Lord your oaths: ³⁴ But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: ³⁵ Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. ³⁶ Neither shall you swear by your head, because you can not make one hair white or black. ³⁷ But let your communication (o. logos) be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these comes of evil.
