¹⁵ And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom all of you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land all of you dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

⁵ A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation. ⁶ God sets the solitary in families: he brings out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.

¹⁰ Have we not all one father? has not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers?

¹⁸ Chasten your son while there is hope, and let not your soul spare for his crying.

⁴ I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

²⁴ He that spares his rod hates his son: but he that loves him chastens him early.

¹⁹ For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he has spoken of him.

²¹ Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.

¹ Hear, all of you children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. ² For I give you good doctrine, forsake all of you not my law. ³ For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother. ⁴ He taught me also, and said unto me, Let your heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live. ⁵ Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. ⁶ Forsake her not, and she shall preserve you: love her, and she shall keep you. ⁷ Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all your getting get understanding. ⁸ Exalt her, and she shall promote you: she shall bring you to honour, when you do embrace her. ⁹ She shall give to your head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to you.

¹³ Like a father pities his children, so the LORD pities them that fear him.

⁷ The just man walks in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.

⁴ And, all of you fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
