Bible verses about "spirituality" | Thomson

Genesis 1:1-31

1 In the beginning God made the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was invisible and unfurnished and there was darkness over this abyss; and a breath of God was brought on above the water. 3 And God said, "Let there be Light;" and there was light. 4 And God saw the light that it was good. And God made a separation between the light and the darkness. 5 And God called the light day; and the darkness he called night. And there was an evening and there was a morning. The first day. 6 Then God said, "Let there be a firmament in the midst of the water; and let it make a separation between water and water." And it was so. God made the firmament; and God made a separation between the water which was below the firmament

Genesis 1:8-31

8 and the water which was above the firmament. And God called the firmament, heaven. And God saw that it was good. And there was an evening and there was a morning. The second day. 9 Then God said, "Let the water which is below the heaven be gathered into one receptacle and let the dry land appear." 10 And it was so. The waters which were below the heaven were gathered into their several collections, and the dry land appeared. And God called the dry land, earth; and the collections of the waters he called, seas. And God saw that it was good. 11 And God said, "Let the earth produce the grassy plant with sowing seed according to kind and according to likeness, and the fruit bearing tree together with the fruit, the seed of which is in it according to kind, upon the earth." And it was so. 12 The earth indeed produced the grassy plant with sowing seed according to kind and according to likeness, and the fruit tree together with fruit, the seed of which is in it, according to kind, in the earth. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was an evening and there was a morning. The third day. 14 Then God said, "Let there be luminaries in the firmament of heaven, to give light on the earth; to make a separation between the day and the night: and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and for years; 15 and let them be for an illumination in the firmament of heaven so as to shine on the earth." And it was so. 16 God indeed made the two great luminaries, the greater luminary for the regulations of the day, and the lesser luminary, with the stars, for the regulations of the night. 17 And God placed them in the firmament of heaven so as to shine on the earth, 18 and to regulate the day and the night, and to make a division between the light and the darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was an evening and there was a morning. The fourth day. 20 Then God said, "Let the waters produce moving creatures having life; and winged creatures flying above the earth in the open firmament of heaven." And it was so. 21 God indeed made the great sea monsters and every species of moving animals which the waters produced according to their kinds, and every winged flying creature according to kind. And God saw that they were good. 22 And God blessed them saying, "Increase and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let flying creatures be multiplied on the earth." 23 And there was an evening and there was a morning. The fifth day. 24 Then God said, "Let the earth produce animal life according to kind; four footed beasts and reptiles and wild beasts of the earth according to kind." And it was so. 25 God indeed made the wild beasts of the earth according to their kind, and the cattle according to their kind, and all the reptiles of the earth according to kind. And God saw that they were good. 26 Then God said, "Let us make man after our image and after a likeness; and let them have dominion over the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the air, and the cattle, and the whole earth, and all the reptiles which creep on the earth." 27 So God made man. After an image of God he made him. A male and a female he made them. 28 And God blessed them saying, "Increase and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the air, and all the cattle, and all the earth, and all the reptiles which creep on the earth." 29 Moreover God said, "Behold I have given you every seed bearing plant, the sowing seed which is on the whole earth, and every tree which hath in itself the fruit of seminal seed, you shall have for food: 30 And to all the beasts of the earth, and to all the birds of the air, and to every reptile on the earth, which hath in it animal life, I have also given every green herb for food." And it was so. 31 And God saw all the things which he had made, and behold they were very good. And there was an evening and there was a morning. The sixth day.

Joshua 22:5

5 But be very careful to perform the commandments and the law which Moses the servant of the Lord charged you to do, to love the Lord our God, to walk in all his ways, to keep his commandments, and to cleave to him and serve him with your whole heart, and with your whole soul.

John 4:24

24 God is Spirit; and they who worship him ought to worship him in spirit and truth.

John 6:27

27 Labour not to procure the food which perisheth, but the food which endureth for an everlasting life, which the son of man will give you; for him the Father, namely God, hath sealed.

John 14:1-31

1 Let not your hearts be troubled. Trust in God: trust also in me. 2 In my Father's house there are many mansions. If there were not, would I have said to you, I am going to prepare a place for you? 3 Now when I have gone and prepared a place for you, I will come again and take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 Now you know whither I am going and you know the way; 5 Thomas saith to him, Master, We do not know whither thou art going, how then can we know the way? 6 Jesus saith to him, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one cometh to the father but by me. 7 Had you known me, you would have known my Father also. But hence forth you know him and have seen him. 8 Philip saith to him, Master shew us the Father, and it sufficeth. 9 Jesus saith to him, Am I so long a time with you, and hast thou not known me, Philip? He who hath seen me hath seen the Father: how then sayest thou, Shew us the Father? 10 Dost thou not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words which I speak to you, I do not speak from myself. And it is the Father himself abiding in me who doth the works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father and that the Father is in me. At least believe me on account of the works themselves. 12 Verily, verily, I say to you, He who believeth in me, even he shall do the works which I do; nay, works greater than these he shall do, because I am going to my Father, 13 and whatever you ask in my name, that I will do. That the Father may be glorified in the Son, 14 if you ask any thing in my name, I will do it. 15 If you love me keep my commandments, 16 and I will ask the Father and he will give you another monitor, that he may continue with you forever, 17 even the spirit of truth which the world cannot receive because it neither seeth him nor knoweth him. But you know him, because he abideth with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans. I am coming to you. 19 Yet a little while and the world seeth me no more; but you see me. Because I live therefore you shall live. 20 In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. 21 He who hath my commandments and keepeth them; he. it is who loveth me. And he who loveth me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him. 22 Judas [not the Iscariot] saith to him, Master, How is it that thou wilt manifest thyself to us, and not to the world?" 23 Jesus in reply, said to him, If any one love me, he will keep my word and my Father will love him; and we will come to him and make an abode with him. 24 He who doth not love me, doth not keep my words. Now the word which you hear is not mine only, but the Fathers who sent me. 25 These things I have spoken to you, while I remain with you. 26 But the Monitor the Holy Spirit which the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you. This peace of mine I give you. It is not as the world giveth that I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled nor dismayed. 28 You have heard me say to you, I am going away and I am coming to you. If you love me, you would rejoice because I said, I am going to the Father: for my Father is greater than I. 29 Now I have told you before it come to pass, that when it is come to pass you may believe. 30 I will not discourse much more with you, for the; chieftain of this world is coming, and hath nothing to do with me; 31 save only that the world may know that I love the Father and do as he commanded me. Arise; let us go hence.

Colossians 3:1-3

1 Since you then have been raised up with the Christ, seek the things which are above; where the Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your affections on the things above and not on the things of this earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hid with the Christ in God.

John 15:1-17

1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine dresser. 2 Every branch in me which beareth not fruit, he loppeth off; and every branch which beareth fruit he cleaneth to make it more fruitful. 3 Now you are clean through the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in me, and I [will abide] in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abide in the vine; so neither can you unless you continue in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. He who continueth in me and I in him he it is who beareth much fruit. Because, separated from me, you can bear nothing: 6 if any one continueth not in me he is thrown away as the branch is when it is withered. Such indeed are gathered and thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you continue in me, and my words continue in you, ask what you will and it will be done for you: 8 by this my Father is glorified. That you may bear much fruit, you must be my disciples. 9 As the Father hath loved me, so I have loved you. Continue ye in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you shall continue in my love; as I have kept my Father's commandments and continue in his love. 11 These things I have spoken to you that my joy may continue, and that your joy may be complete. 12 This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 No one hath greater love than this, that he would lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are my friends, if you do what I command you. 15 I no longer call you servants; because the servant doth not know what his master doth. But I have called you friends, because I have made known to you all that I heard from my Father. 16 It was not you who chose me; but it was I who chose you, and placed you that you may go forth bearing fruit, and that your fruit may continue, that the Father may give you whatever you ask of him in my name. 17 These things I command you that you may love one another.

4 that the morality of the law might be confirmed by us who walk not after flesh, but after spirit:
