²¹ Then I proclaimed a fast there at the river Avue, that we might humble ourselves in the presence of our God, and inquire of him the straight road for us, and our children, and all our substance;

¹² because thou wilt bless the righteous. Thou, Lord, hast covered us as with armour of favour.

²³ The fear of the Lord conduceth to a man's life: but he who is fearless will lodge in places where knowledge doth not watch.

¹⁶ Behold I send you forth like sheep in the midst of wolves; be ye therefore wise as the serpents and harmless as the doves.

¹ Receive into fellowship him who is weak in the faith, without regard to differences of opinions. ² One indeed believeth that he may eat all things; another who is weak eateth vegetables. ³ Let not him, who eateth despise him who doth not eat. And let not him who doth not eat, judge him who eateth. For God hath taken him into his family, ⁴ who art thou who judgest another's servant. To his own master he standeth or falleth. But he shall stand, for God is able to establish him. ⁵ One indeed judgeth one day above another; another esteemeth every day alike. Let every one be fully persuaded in his own mind. ⁶ He who regardeth the day, regardeth it for the Lord; and he who regardeth not the day, refraineth from regarding it, for the Lord. He who eateth, eateth for the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he who eateth not, refraineth from eating, for the Lord, and he giveth God thanks. ⁷ For none of us liveth to himself, nor doth any die to himself. ⁸ For whether we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord; so that whether we live or die, we are the Lord's. ⁹ For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and the living. ¹⁰ Why then judgest thou thy brother, or why despisest thou thy brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of the Christ; ¹¹ For it is written, "As I live, saith the Lord, to me every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall give praise to God." ¹² Since every one of us then shall give an account of himself to God, ¹³ let us therefore no more judge one another, but rather come to this determination, not to lay a stumbling block in the way of a brother, nor give any occasion of offence. ¹⁴ I know and am fully assured by the Lord Jesus; that nothing is of itself unclean. But to him who thinketh any thing unclean, to him it is unclean. ¹⁵ Now if on account of thy food thy brother is grieved, thou no longer walkest According to love. Destroy not by thy food him for whom Christ died. ¹⁶ Let not therefore the good which you enjoy be ill spoken of. ¹⁷ For the reign of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in a holy spirit. ¹⁸ For he who serveth the Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men. ¹⁹ Let us then pursue those things which tend to peace and mutual edification. ²⁰ Do not for the sake of food destroy the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but they are an evil to a man who eateth for a stumbling block. ²¹ It is good not to eat flesh, nor drink wine, nor any thing by which thy brother falleth, or stumbleth, or is made weak. ²² Thou hast a belief; exercise it at home by thyself before God. Happy he who upon a strict examination doth not condemn himself. ²³ Now he who maketh distinctions is condemned if he eateth, because he eateth not with belief; and every thing which is not according to belief is a sin.

¹⁹ And my God will supply all your wants, according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

¹⁸ And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work, and save me for his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory, for the ages of the ages. Amen.

¹³ I can undergo all things through Christ who strengthened me.

¹² Happy the man, who endureth a trial! because having stood the test, he will Jas 1:receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them who love him.

¹ The praise of an Ode. By David. He who dwelleth under the protection of the Most High shall lodge in the shelter of the God of heaven. ² He will say to the Lord, "Thou art my helper: my God is my refuge, I will trust in him." ³ Because he will deliver thee from the snare of hunters; and tumultuous accusation; ⁴ with his breast will overshadow thee: therefore under his wings thou shalt rest secure. His truth will encompass thee with armour. ⁵ Thou shalt not be afraid of the terror by night; nor of the arrow which flieth by day; ⁶ of the thing which walketh in darkness; nor of mischance and the demon of noon day. ⁷ A thousand may fall at thy side; and ten thousand at thy right hand: but it shall not approach thee. ⁸ But thou with thine eyes shalt observe, and see the reward of the wicked. ⁹ Because thou, O Lord, my hope; hast made the Most High thy refuge; ¹⁰ no evils shall come upon thee, nor shall a scourge approach thy dwelling. ¹¹ For he will give his angels a charge concerning thee; to keep thee in all thy ways; ¹² with their hands they shall bear thee up; shouldst thou chance to strike thy foot against a stone. ¹³ Upon an asp and a basilisk thou shalt tread: and trample down a lion and a dragon. ¹⁴ [J] Because he trusted in me, I will deliver him: I will protect him because he knew my name. ¹⁵ He will call on me, and I will answer him: I am with him in affliction: I will deliver him and honour him. ¹⁶ With length of days I will satisfy him; and I will shew him my salvation.

¹¹ Put on the complete armour of God, that you may be able to withstand the wiles of the devil.

⁹ Behold I have commanded thee; be strong and courageous: fear not, nor be dismayed; for the Lord thy God is with thee withersoever thou goest.

⁸ while I will lay me down in peace and sleep because thou, Lord, hast only caused me to dwell in hope.
