John 5:39-40

39 You search the scriptures because you think you have by means of them everlasting life! Now these are the very writings which testify concerning me; 40 yet you will not come to me that you may have life.

Romans 13:1

1 Let every soul be subject to the ruling powers; for there is no power but from God. The powers in being are arranged by God;

Deuteronomy 28:15-23

15 But in case thou wilt not hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God to keep all his commandments which I this day give thee in charge, all these evils shall come upon thee and overtake thee: 16 Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed thou in the field. 17 Cursed shall be thy granaries, and thy stores. 18 Cursed shall be the offspring of thy body, and the products of thy land, thy herds and thy flocks. 19 Cursed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and cursed thou when thou goest out. 20 The Lord send upon thee want, and famine, and destruction on all the labour of thy hands, until he utterly root thee out, and until he destroy thee quickly, on the account of thy wicked devices. Seeing thou hast forsaken me, 21 may the Lord make the pestilence cleave to thee, until it utterly consume thee from the land to which thou art going, to take possession of it. 22 The Lord smite thee with anxiety, and fever, and chilness, and restlessness, and blasting, and mildew, that they may pursue thee until they utterly destroy thee. 23 And when the heaven over thy head shall be brass, and the earth under thy feet iron,

Romans 13:1-5

1 Let every soul be subject to the ruling powers; for there is no power but from God. The powers in being are arranged by God; 2 so that he who setteth himself against the power resisteth the arrangement of God; and they who resist shall receive for themselves condemnation. 3 For the rulers are not a terror to good works but to evil. Dost thou then wish not to dread the power? Do that which is good and thou shall have praise from it. 4 For it is a minister of God for good to thee. But if thou dost evil, be in dread; for it wieldeth not the sword in vain. For it is a minister of God, an avenger to execute wrath on him who doth evil. 5 Therefore it is necessary to submit to government, not only on account of punishment, but also for conscience's sake.
