⁵ The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou art he who restoreth me mine inheritance. ⁶ The lines have fallen to me in the best places: for this inheritance of mine is the best for me. ⁷ I will bless the Lord who hath given me understanding: even now at night my reins have instructed me. ⁸ I saw the Lord continually before me. Because he is at my right hand that I may not be moved;

⁷ The law of the Lord is perfect, it restoreth souls: The testimony of the Lord is faithful, it maketh infants wise. ⁸ The statutes of the Lord are right, they rejoice the heart. The commandment of the Lord is clear, it enlighteneth the eyes. ⁹ The fear of the Lord is pure, it endureth forever. The judgments of the Lord are true, they are justified for being so. ¹⁰ They are more to be desired than gold, or many precious stones; and sweeter than honey or the honey comb. ¹¹ These indeed thy servant keepeth; for keeping them there is a great reward.

¹⁴ He maketh thy borders peace, and feedeth thee with the finest wheat;

¹⁹ It is better to dwell in the wilderness than with a quarrelsome, clamorous and passionate wife.

¹⁴ For thou wilt beat him with a rod and deliver his soul from death.

²⁸ But I say to you, whoever looketh on a married woman so as to lust after her, hath already committed adultery with her in his heart.

⁴⁹ For every one is to be salted for fire, as every sacrifice is to be salted with salt. ⁵⁰ Salt is good; but if the salt become saltless, with what can you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and maintain peace with one another.

⁴² And whoever shall cause one of these little ones, who believe in me, to stumble, better were it for him, that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea. ⁴³ Therefore, if thy hand cause thee to fall, cut it off. It is better for thee to enter maimed into life, than having two hands, to go into hell, into the fire which is unextinguishable; ⁴⁴ "Where their worm dieth not; and the fire is not extinguished! ⁴⁵ And if thy foot cause thee to fall, cut it off, it b better for thee to enter lame into life, than, having two feet, to be cast into hell, into the fire which is unextinguishable; ⁴⁶ where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not extinguished. ⁴⁷ And if thine eye causeth thee to fall, pluck it out; it is better for thee to enter one eyed into the kingdom of God, than having two eyes, to be cast into the hell of that fire; ⁴⁸ where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not extinguished. ⁴⁹ For every one is to be salted for fire, as every sacrifice is to be salted with salt. ⁵⁰ Salt is good; but if the salt become saltless, with what can you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and maintain peace with one another.

⁸ Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are venerable, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are friendly, whatsoever things are reputable, if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think of these things,

² Bear one another's burdens and so fulfil the law of the Christ.

¹ be ye therefore imitators of God as beloved children. ² And walk in love, even as the Christ loved us, and delivered himself up for us, as an3 offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour. ³ And let not fornication, nor uncleanness of any sort, nor inordinate desire, be so much as named among you, as becometh saints; ⁴ nor obscenity, nor foolish talking, nor jesting about things which are unbecoming; but rather thanksgiving.

¹ Wrath destroyeth even the prudent; now a soft answer turneth away wrath; but a harsh word stirreth up anger.

¹⁹ Let a malicious man be fined high; but if he take away life, let him forfeit his own.

²⁴ Have no fellowship with a man addicted to wrath; nor lodge with a friend who is passionate:

²⁶ and hath made of one blood the whole nation of men to inhabit the whole face of the earth, having marked out times previously arranged in order, and the boundaries of their habitation,

¹⁴ Form no associations with unbelievers; for what fellowship is there between righteousness and unrighteousness? What communion hath light with darkness?

⁶ Let your conversation be always with courteousness, seasoned with salt, with a knowledge how you ought to answer every one.

⁵ For every one shall bear his own burden.
