⁹ And I tell you, that whoever puts away his wife, except for adultery, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her that is put away, commits adultery.

² And the Pharisees came and asked him, to try him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? ³ And he answered and said to them, What did Moses command you? ⁴ And they said, Moses permitted us to write a bill of divorcement and put her away. ⁵ And Jesus said to them, Because of your hardness of heart, he wrote you this ordinance; ⁶ but from the beginning of creation, he made them male and female. ⁷ For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and the two shall be one flesh; ⁸ so that they are no longer two, but one flesh. ⁹ What God therefore has yoked together, let not man separate. ^{10 (10:2)} And his disciples asked him again, in the house, concerning this. ¹¹ And he said to them, Whoever puts away his wife and marries another, commits adultery with her; ¹² and if a woman puts away her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.

²⁷ Are you bound to a wife, seek not a release; are you released from a wife, seek not a wife. ²⁸ But if you marry, you do not sin and if the virgin marries she does not sin. But such will have affliction in the flesh; but I spare you.

⁶ So that they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has yoked together, let not man separate.

¹⁸ Every one that puts away his wife and marries another, commits adultery; and he that marries a woman put away from a husband, commits adultery.

^{39 (3:7)} A woman is bound as long as her husband lives; but if her husband is dead then she is free to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.
