Acts 20:7

7 On the first day of the week, when we all were assembled to break bread, Paul was discoursing to them, being about to leave in the morning, and he extended his address until midnight.

Luke 24:1-53

1 BUT on the first day of the week at early dawn they came to the tomb, bringing the perfumes which they had prepared. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 and on entering they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were at a loss about this, suddenly two men in glittering robes stood beside them. 5 They were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why are you looking for the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you while he was still in Galilee 7 that the Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and rise on the third day." 8 Then they remembered his words 9 and turned back from the tomb and told all this to the eleven and all the rest. 10 It was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James. The other women with them also told these things to the apostles. 11 But these reports seemed in their eyes like idle talk. They did not believe the women. 12 But Peter rose and ran to the tomb and stooping down he saw nothing but the linen cloths, and he went away to his place wondering at what had happened. 13 On that day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, seven miles distant from Jerusalem, 14 and they were talking to each other about all these occurrences. 15 It happened as they talked and discussed that Jesus himself drew near and walked along with them. 16 But their eyes were restrained from recognizing him. 17 He said to them, "What are these matters that you are debating with each other as you walk?" They stood still with sad faces. 18 One of them, named Cleopas, said to him, "Are you a stranger living alone in Jerusalem and do you not know the things that have happened there in recent days?" 19 He said to them, "What things?" They said to him, "The things about Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet powerful in deed and word before God and all the people — 20 how our high priests and leading men handed him over to be condemned to death and crucified him. 21 But we were hoping that he was the one who was to redeem Israel. But now, however, the third day is passing since these things took place. 22 Yet some women from our company amazed us. They went at dawn to the tomb 23 and did not find his body, but came back saying that they had seen a vision of angels who said that he was alive. 24 Some of our company went out to the tomb and found things as the women had said, but they did not see him." 25 Jesus said to them, "O men lacking insight and slow in heart to believe all that the prophets spoke! 26 Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and enter into his glory?" 27 Then, beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things about himself. 28 They drew near to the village where they were going and he acted as if he were going on. 29 But they urged him, saying, "Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the sun is already low." So he went in to stay with them. 30 As he reclined at table with them, he took the bread and blessed it and broke it and gave it to them. 31 And their eyes were opened and they recognized him; but he vanished from their sight. 32 They said to each other, "Were not our hearts burning within us when he was talking to us on the road and was explaining the Scriptures to us?" 33 Then, rising that very hour, they returned to Jerusalem and found the eleven and their associates assembled 34 and saying, "Really the Lord has risen and he has appeared to Simon." 35 They then narrated what had happened on the road and how they knew him by his breaking the bread. 36 While they were talking of these things, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them and said to them, "Peace be with you!" 37 They were terrified and much alarmed, and thought that they were seeing a spirit. 38 But he said to them, "Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts? 39 See my hands and my feet — that it is I myself. Feel me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see me having." 40 Saying this, he showed them his hands and his feet. 41 While they still were doubting for joy and wondering, he said to them, "Have you anything here to eat?" 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he took it and ate before them. 44 He said to them, "This is what I said to you while I was still with you, that all the things written in the Law of Moses and in the Prophets and Psalms about me must be fulfilled." 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and he said to them, "Thus it is written that the Christ is to suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and in his name change of heart for forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 And, see, I am sending upon you the promise of my Father. But you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high." 50 He led them out as far as Bethany and lifted up his hands and blessed them. 51 While he was blessing them he parted from them and was carried up into heaven. 52 They bowed down before him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, 53 and were constantly in the Temple courts blessing God.

John 20:1-31

1 ON the first day of the week, early in the morning while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been taken from the tomb. 2 She ran and came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and said to them, "They have taken away the Master from the tomb and we do not know where they have laid him." 3 Simon Peter and the other disciple went out and made their way to the tomb. 4 They were both running, and the other disciple outran Peter and came first to the tomb, 5 and stooping he saw the linen cloths lying; but he did not enter. 6 Simon Peter came following him and entered the tomb and looked at the linen cloths lying 7 and the handkerchief that had been about his head, not lying with the linen cloths, but rolled up in a place apart. 8 Then the other disciple who had come first to the tomb entered, and he saw and believed. 9 For they did not yet know the Scripture that he must rise from the dead. 10 Then the disciples went back to where they were staying. 11 Mary was standing by the tomb outside weeping. As she wept she stooped and looked into the tomb 12 and saw two angels in white sitting one at the head and one at the feet where the body of Jesus had lain. 13 They said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them, "Because they have carried away my Master and I do not know where they have laid him." 14 After saying this, she turned and saw Jesus standing, but did not recognize that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?" She, thinking that he was the gardener, said to him, "Sir, if you have removed him, tell me where you have laid him and I will take him away." 16 Jesus said to her, "Mary!" She turned and said to him in Hebrew, "Rabboni!" (that is, Teacher). 17 Jesus said to her, "Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brethren and say to them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.' 18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples, "I have seen the Master," and she told that he had said these things to her. 19 In the evening of that day, the first day of the week, when the doors had been closed where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst and said to them, "Peace be with you." 20 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were filled with joy on seeing the Master. 21 He said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father sent me forth so I am sending you." 22 When he had said this, he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven. If you retain the sins of any, they are retained." 24 Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus (the Twin), was not with them when Jesus came. 25 The other disciples said to him, "We have seen the Master." But he said to them, "Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails and put my finger into the print of the nails and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it." 26 After eight days the disciples were again within and Thomas was with them. Jesus came and stood in the midst and said, "Peace be with you." 27 Then he said to Thomas, "Reach your finger here. Here are my hands. Reach your hand and put it into my side, and become not faithless, but believing." 28 Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!" 29 Jesus said to him, "Because you have seen me you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." 30 Jesus did before the disciples many other signs which are not written in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life through his name.

1 Corinthians 16:2

2 On the first day of the week let each of you lay up at home something according as he may be prospering, in order that no collections may be going on when I come.
