¹⁹ Do not revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, "Vengeance is mine; I will repay, says the Lord."

¹ DOES any one of you, if he has a grievance against another, dare to bring the case before the unrighteous and not before the holy? ² Do you not know that the holy are going to judge the world? If the world is to be judged by you, are you unfit for the most trivial cases? ³ Do you not know that we are to judge angels, to say nothing of affairs of this life? ⁴ If then you have affairs of this life, do you ask men who in the view of the church count for nothing to sit as judges? ⁵ I say this to your shame. Is it true that there is among you no one wise enough to judge between a man and his brother, ⁶ but brother goes to law with brother and that before unbelievers?

¹⁵ "If your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault between yourself and him alone. If he listens to you, you have won over your brother. ¹⁶ If he does not listen to you, take along with you one or two more, that at the mouth of two witnesses, or three, every word may be confirmed. ¹⁷ If he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. If he refuses to hear the church, let him be to you as a Gentile or a tax collector.
