¹⁶ Do you not know that you are God's temple, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

³⁴ But I say to you, Do not swear at all; either by heaven; for it is God's throne: ³⁵ Or by the earth; for it is his footstool: or by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. ³⁶ Nor shall you swear by your head, because you can not make one hair white or black. ³⁷ But let your statements be, Yes for yes; No for no: for whatever is more than these comes from the evil one.

⁴⁵ A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth that which is evil: for from the overflow of the heart his mouth speaks.

³⁶ But I say to you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account of on the day of judgment.

¹² But above all things, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven, or by the earth, or with any other oath: but let your yes be yes; and your no, no; lest you fall into condemnation.

⁴ Nor let there be filthiness, or foolish talk, or coarse jesting, which are not proper: but rather giving of thanks. ⁵ For this you know: that no sexually immoral or impure person, or covetous man, (for such a man is an idolater,) has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

²⁹ Let no corrupt words proceed out of your mouth, but only that which is good for edifying, that it may impart grace to the hearers.
